Re: The inevitable happened.
Or, since you have the donor car, you could use the steering column from the 65.

Re: 180 Turbo Blues
Sorry it's been a while, but it took a while to sort the troubles. Exhaust leaks- need all six exhaust tubes (all were rusty/leaking, and a crossover pipe. Also needed all six pushrod tubes on the left side, they were leaking due to, you guessed it-rust. So, no more exhaust leaks, no more oil leaks ...

Re: 180 Turbo Blues
Hey all, Thanks for all the replies. Sorry I haven't replied myself, but work gets in the way. Anyway, yesterday was a fairly cool day here in south-central PA, so I disconnected the vac/press line to the distributor and connected it to a test gauge that shows vac/press. Going downhill with the ...

180 Turbo Blues
Finally got the 180 and four speed installed in the 65 Monza Convt. The car starts and idles fine. The vacuum/pressure gauge sticks on the vacuum side, so I can't really tell if it's making boost or not, but think it's not, because of the exhaust leaks. (the #3 tube needs replaced, and something is ...

Re: Flywheel rattle
Hey all, Thanks for the quick replies, and I apologize for not responding sooner. It appears that I will "bite the bullet" and buy a reconditioned flywheel, that has been bolted, resurfaced, and balanced. To Brad, sorry I wasn't more clear in my previous post. The sand rail has Corvair engine, trans ...

Flywheel rattle
OK guys, Looking for some experience here. I recently acquired a 65 180 turbo motor and four speed for my 65 Monza Conv't, to replace the 95 HP and three speed. Both of these powertrains need the flywheels repaired/replaced as they both have the dreaded flywheel rattle. My question is, what is the ...

Not really new, but...
OK, I'm not really new here, but i finally took some pics of the '65 Monza Convertible, and thought it's time to introduce myself. I'm Jeff, from Fairfield, PA. Currently own My first Corvair, 1965 Monza Convt, had it for a year now. Had the body/paint work done, converted from Powerglide to 3spd ...

Re: ENTER- Corvair of the Month June 2015
Okay all, Finally got around to taking pictures of my '65 Monza convertible. She's got a 95HP engine from a 1964 (going by the serial number). She came with a Powerglide, but I changed that to a three speed from a 1966 500 that I bought for just that purpose. I had a friend do the body work and ...

Re: Lost key to trunk
Trunk lock SHOULD be the same as glove box-however, it may have been changed sometime in the last 49 years. To be sure 1) remove headlight "bucket"
2) reach in and open trunk latch
3) take trunk lock cylinder to locksmith

Re: Trans swap, now engine is low
Boy, is my face red! I didn't realize just how wide that rubber strip is. I guess I never saw an engine without the seal installed, and it looked like a really big gap. After reading the replies, I went and installed the seal, and now everything looks like it should. Thanks for all the responses ...

Re: Trans swap, now engine is low
This is the only pic that shows up well. Last night I unbolted the trans, but it only has about an inch of clearance until it hits the cross member. I noticed that the top of the oil filter adapter is below the lip of the body- shouldn't it be above? If I unbolt the rear mount. I can jack the engine ...

Re: Trans swap, now engine is low
Sorry I don't have pics, will try to get some tonight. The engine seems to be low all the way around. I'm thinking that I will unbolt the trans(front) mount and jack up the engine to see if it will level out. I unbolted the engine mount and it seemed like it was pretty level when I jacked it up.

Trans swap, now engine is low
OK guys, this really has me puzzled. The car: 1965 Monza convertible. I bought the car about 10 months ago, found out it has a 95 HP 1964 engine with Powerglide. Seals were leaking pretty bad, so I dropped the engine and trans, separated them, and took the engine to the Corvair Ranch (luckily, I ...
