Re: New guy looking at a 65 Corsa
In the trunk looks to be just surface rust no big problem.
With out seeing exactly where the zipper is broken on the vert top and in the one pic it looks like the top pad needs replaced. If the top is more than a couple years old, it would be very doubtful the repairs can be made without replacing ...

Re: Decided to start a project page.
I started to weld in new sheet metal this week. Started on the left front in front of the wheel with the inner fender. Cut out the rusted metal and built it back up with new metal and test fit the new outer fender lower from Clarks. It fits real nice and I will weld it in this weekend. After that I ...

Re: Crankshaft bolt
Here's a picture of the type of puller used to remove the crank pulley. The bolts will screw into the two holes in the pulley. The thing to be careful of is to not damage the threads in the end of the crank. I usually just put the bolt loosely in the end of the crank an let the center of the puller ...

Re: Odd engine problem
It sounds like an electrical problem. The radio cutting out, the motor dying and gen/fan light comes point to a lost electrical power. Then you tap the accelerator and it picks back up what's happening is; as the engine revs up the generator spins faster and gives the electrical system a little more ...

Welcome ... We like to see pictures. Post them if you have them.
I was just up in New Hampshire earlier this month on the way to Nova Scotia. Especially liked driving the Auto Road at Mount Washington. What a road and what a view once you get to the top. I would love to drive the vair to the ...

Re: Decided to start a project page.
Switching gears a little I decided to start some body work. When I first went to look at the car, I brought along a fridge magnet to check for body filler. There were some areas where the magnet didn't stick too good. So I knew there was some body filler. These are the areas I started to work on. I ...

Re: Decided to start a project page.
Here's another thing to watch for on a 49 year old car. The rubber grommet that protects the wire going to the temp sensor in the head is hard as a rock and rubbed the insulation off the wire. My "to do" list for the vair keep growing, but that's part of the fun of doing a thorough restoration ...

Re: Decided to start a project page.
Decided to do a compression check and got some bad results. Did the compression test a second time with the same results. Only number 2 cylinder had a good reading.
Cylinder 1 = 95#, 2 = 160#, 3 = 145#, 4 = 140#, 5 = 140#, 6 = 130#
To find out where the compression losses are, I then did a leak down ...

Do a compression and a cylinder leak down test. That will tell you what would be causing any excessive blow by

To get a good paint match call around to some local automotive paint suppliers in your area to see if any of them have an Acquire RX color matching system. I had to match some paint on my classic mustang. I drove the car to my local paint supplier and they used that system to mix me up a pint of ...

They do have idle mixture screws. The number cast on the bottom of the carb is "7016781" I am now thinking that originally they were 1960 H carbs that were converted to later model HV carbs. What do you all think? Has anyone heard of this being done?

Carry a spare fan belt and a wrench to change it in the trunk. If the belt breaks having a spare belt will make the difference between getting it going or having to get a tow.
