Anyone make their own Stinger Decklid?
Has anyone here modified a stock metal decklid to have the flaps like a Stinger decklid? If so, would you mind sharing how you did it? Pics would be great!
THanks!

Re: Anyone make their own Stinger Decklid?
Not yet.
Years ago I purchased a reproduction Yenko deck lid for my Kelmark Mid Engine Corvair but didn't like that it had the wide gap like the Yenko deck lid had, I also didn't want or need the functional flaps since the original engine compartment was being used as a trunk. I wound up not using it and sold it to a Yenko owner local to me.
Fast forward twenty years and I find myself with a fiberglass reproduction deck lid. Recently I purchased from a member here a "Skin" for a Yenko deck lid. It had no inner structure and wasn't a great piece but it may meet my needs which is why I bought it.
My plan is to graft the spoiler portion to this deck lid and hopefully end up with one that fits properly and does not have any flaps. I could have simply purchased an after market spoiler and grafted it in but like the lower height of the Yenko design. Maybe in a few years I will get around to it unless I find one already done and simply purchase it.
I had given some thought to fabricating a steel spoiler on a stock deck lid but that was many years ago when I was young enough to not know any better regarding the skill and effort involved. It would be nice to see one done in steel though.

Re: Anyone make their own Stinger Decklid?
Avoiding the large gap is exactly what I am trying to do. The steel deck lid fit better and avoids the gap. I have a fiberglass spoiler I will attach to the steel hood, but I want the flaps as well. Has anyone made their own in steel. I think the hardest part would be treating the edge of the opening so it looks well thought out and not like someone just cut a hole in the deck lid. Any tips would be appreciated.

Came across this on the Internet. Not the same size as the Stinger air doors, but would probably work as a repro on a steel hood.

What's it from? What's the store, specs, or part number? Might be interested in finding something similar myself.
Thanks!

Sorry, I should have posted the link. Here it is: http://polarmfg.thomasnet.com/category/cowl-vents
If you click on one of the pics, it will also give you the size specs and even a downloadable PDF drawing of them.
From what I see they are:
Outside Flange - 11-5/8" long x 6-15/16" wide.
Lid (Door) - 5-3/16" wide x 10-7/16" long
Finish - Zinc plated
Weight - 2-3/4 lbs.
They run $34.50 each plus shipping.
Hope that helps!
I'm going to take a whack at making my own first by cutting them out of an old nasty hood and try welding up some flanges myself. If that proves too hard, I might go the route above. Note that these vents are not accurate to the size of the Stinger originals. But, if you not going for authenticity, who cares...
