Late model pressure plate differences

Post by 2manyvairs2fix »

I had a standard and heavy duty pressure plate side by side today for a comparison.
My question is: With the exception of the contact ring weights on the heavy duty plate,
are there other differences such as static spring pressure or metal thickness between the two?

According to the 1965 Corvair Chassis Shop Manual specifications and the 1966 Corvair GM Heritage Center Specifications the disc friction surface area, pressure plate spring pressure, and pressure plate material are all different when comparing the standard (10100-500/10500-Monza) clutch assembly and the heavy duty (10700-Corsa) clutch assembly. The flywheels were all the same.

Interesting that the clutch specifications table published in the 1965 shop manual was apparently written for the 1964 shop manual supplement, and shows specs for the 95 hp, 110 hp, and 150 hp engines. It was not updated by GM to reflect the 1965 model year engine specifications of 95 hp, 110 hp, 140 hp, and 180 hp!

Thank you Brad.
Chilton's doesn't cover that.
I guess it's time for a chassis manual.
