New to Corvairs (what was I thinking)

Hello all from central Va. This is my first corvair, I have worked on. Vehicle projects in past but this is my first car. A friend
saved this 65 Monza from the scrap yard, he wanted a 64 so this one became mine. So not knowing anything about pusher engines or airheads I thought this project would be fun. So here it is.

Whoa, what were you thinking? I hope you are a good welder.
Don't get me wrong I think all Corvairs should tried to be saved. But that is alot of rust.
We will be your cheering staff. You go man you can do this! That is a great body style.

I know a guy in PA who will fix that for $50 ,but you will have to supply your own rivets and bondo

Lucky for me I payed attention and learned metal work from my dad. So now I'm gonna try my best to teach my son. Maybe I can teach him to weld and shape metal, and lay the bondo on thick (haha). The motor is free and the fluids appear to be clean, so after giving the carbs a good bath I will try it. I guess it will run there's fire on all 6 plugs. Only time will tell.

Hello from Colorado....

Please save yourself a lot of time and $$$ and take a vacation out west, bring along a car hauler and pick up one that is rust free for less than $1,000 and put your time into saving a Corvair that is worth saving.
You have a totally rusted out body that will never be useable. Save the useable parts and look for a project car that is in rust free condition. Remember that these are unitized bodies and the strength in in the sheet metal, you have no strength left...

Sorry for being so negative but I have seen many new owners throw too many $$$ at a car that never gets back on the road..

Thanks for all of the replys. It is true that the car has some rust. I think that I may cut the lower fender away and see if the damage is replaceable. Other than the fender the rest of the car seems to be solid. The pillers are solid, as well as the rockers. So I will dig into the fender and see is if there is enough metal behind there to weld to. Also sorry for the bad Pic. other than the fender the rest is surface rust.
