Hands-on help in Nor Cal

I'm looking for some hands-on help from anyone in the Fairfield/Vacaville, CA area. I've read manuals and watched videos, but I just can't seem to get this 140 running right. I'm 90% sure it's down to the carbs being set up correctly. I don't want to take it to a mechanic, I want to learn what to do ...

Re: 140 carb linkage

Oh my gosh, I think I just answered my question. After looking at pictures online, I saw one with the same tang. Turns out the float is upside down in the picture.....so mine must be upside down. Lol. I'll have to flip those over. I just thought it was supposed to be that way since it was on both ...

Re: 140 carb linkage

Stuck float? Before you dig into it, try rapping it a couple of times with a rubber mallet. Sometimes that will work, and once they get wet and unstuck, it'll be fine.
Thanks, I'll give that a try. If it doesn't work, I'll pull off the top and recheck the float. Maybe it's got a crack or something ...

Re: 140 carb linkage

Ok, I have a new issue. I got my linkage sorted out (thank you). But tonight after priming the lines that had gone completely dry since sitting, I got it started and found that my right side secondary carb was puking fuel all over. Carb throat completely filed with gasoline and gushing over. I think ...

Re: 140 carb linkage

I find the rid for that secondary carb, so it's on now. Good point about the swivel though, I'll flip it over. I'm sure the spring will align better now.

Re: 140 PG clarification

One more thing... Corvairs don't have a TV cable, it's a rod and its adjustment mostly affects the road speed where the transmission shifts. It's beneficial to crowd that to the upper limit to allow the engine to run to higher RPM before shifting.
How do I adjust this rod? Is there any specific ...

Re: 140 carb linkage

I looked over the PDF's and I can see the linkage, but not clearly. I know something is wrong on my setup. I'd still like some pictures if anyone could help me out. Thanks.

Sorry, it's a '65. But thank you for the links. I'll take a look.

140 carb linkage

Could anyone help me out. I'm working on putting my carbs back on and could use a picture (or a few) of the linkage. I just don't want to get it together and find that something is backwards or on the wrong side. Thank you.

Re: 140 PG clarification

Actually, I suppose that wouldn't help. Because the gear would only change the cam timing in relation to the crank.

Re: 140 PG clarification

But isn't that with the different cam gear? So if it is supposed to be 18° with the appropriate cam gear that retards timing by 3° (or whatever it is), wouldn't I want to set it to 15° to compensate for having the incorrect gear? Or am I looking at this wrong?

Re: 140 PG clarification

I think I saw that write up on modifying the governor. Didn't look too difficult. Sounds like if I do that and a adjust the shift points, I might be able to get around doing the cam. Any ideas on what my timing should be set to if I don't have that special retarded timing gear? (And yes, I chuckled ...

140 PG clarification

Hello everyone, I have a question (big surprise). I've been trying to read everything I can about mating a Power Glide to a 140, but I get some conflicting information. So I'm looking for some clarification from you Corvair Gurus. My '65 140 has a PG swapped into it. What EXACTLY needs to be changed ...

Re: Looking for a free ride!

I was there around the end of March, but who knows the next time we'll be down there. But when I am, I'll probably take you up on that offer.

Looking for a free ride!

I'm not sure where to post this, but I'm looking for someone in the Vacaville/Fairfield, CA area that has a LM Corvair (preferably 140/4spd) that might offer a joy ride. I have a '65 140/PG, but am curious how much difference the 4spd makes. I've always liked the Corvair, but I'm a little ...
