That is true, I probably shouldn't be worried too much about replicating what was there, and just make it as strong as possible. It will never be a show car, and I'll likely modify the outer panel to fit the larger 15" tires im using anyway.
Thanks for the input!

Fender corner replacement...Help!
Hey gang, I'm replacing the rotted front lower fender corners on my LM, (from Clark's) and I'm wondering if someone can post a pic or two of how the inner fender is supposed to look where it mates to the outer fender inside the wheel well. Both mine are gone, so no reference. I've attached a pic of ...

Re: Timing at 28 degrees?
I don't think there's anything wrong with the install or the tensioner itself per se, but there must be a crank pulsation or pulley issue causing an uneven load on the tensioner. It's not misfiring, but maybe there's been a lumpier cam installed, maybe an issue with the alternator. All I know is ...

Re: Timing at 28 degrees?
So just a quick update, The tensioner was really driving me crazy, so I disassembled it today and placed a piece of rubber tube about 1" long in the middle of the spring in hopes of dampening the pulsations and when I tightened the pivot bolts, the tensioner became pretty rigid. (Not over tight, I ...

Timing at 28 degrees?
Hi folks, I've got a few issues with my 65 Monza (110 hp PG) I installed an automatic belt tensioner from Corvair underground, destroying my stock tensioner bracket in the process, and I noticed that at idle, the tensioner hops around like crazy, to the point it has tossed the belt once (new from ...

Re: Type of engine oil
Lucas makes a "hot rod" oil with high levels of zddp, that's what I'm using

Re: LM Hybrid? Crazy idea?
I'd be running motor and engine together, with the motor just providing some assist to the engine. I think a belt drive will suffice for this, but some experimentation will tell. When the engine is running, it can charge the battery pack, so no need to set up a clutch system. The speed controller ...

Re: LM Hybrid? Crazy idea?
So here's the motor I'm talking about, the first pic is the dirt bike conversion I used it for, the outboard motor was the original purpose for this motor when it was built by Briggs and Stratton.

Re: LM Hybrid? Crazy idea?
I don't think there's enough room to fit the Etek motor there, and the gear ratio would be too high and over rev the motor.
I have a different motor that is smaller in diameter, and higher rpm, but is quite long, and lower power (4 hp cont)
Anybody know how many teeth on a PG ring gear?

Re: LM Hybrid? Crazy idea?
Thanks for all the input! The hub motor idea would be a great way to go if I had a larger budget for this, but I wanted to try something simple with parts I have on hand, as azdave suggested, small steps to try proof of concept to see if the pulley system will work and go from there. Hank, I don't ...

Re: LM Hybrid? Crazy idea?
Not that ambitious, wouldn't have the same kind of start/stop as modern cars, but could shut off engine during long stops and just use the electric motor to crawl along in heavy traffic, that kind of thing.

LM Hybrid? Crazy idea?
Ok, so I've been trying to think of a way to add a mild hybrid system to my LM, and today I had a thought, so wanted to bounce it off some more experienced Corvair owners to see what the general consensus would be. I'm an auto tech, not an engineer, but I have a fair bit of experience with EV stuff ...
