Hey gang,
I'm replacing the rotted front lower fender corners on my LM, (from Clark's) and I'm wondering if someone can post a pic or two of how the inner fender is supposed to look where it mates to the outer fender inside the wheel well. Both mine are gone, so no reference. I've attached a pic of what I've got now, cut back to good metal.
Thanks!

Re: Fender corner replacement...Help!
In all my years (30 plus) of restoring cars I've developed the attitude that unless I am looking at a concourse restoration any repair that achieves the final goal that is not seen works just as well as the way the factory did it. It's not hard to fabricate metal that will do the job. Don't be afraid to make intricate body pieces by using several pieces of metal welded together instead of one stamped piece. This allows you to possibly use heavier gauge metal than the factory did. I restored my wife's '63 convertible using 14 gauge steel in most repairs making the car stronger. Replacing rusted out 18 gauge with new 14 gauge in the floors, crossmembers, and the hidden structure used to strengthen a convertible resulted in a convertible that can handle rough roads with no cowl shake, no rattles, and an elephant can dance on my floors.

That is true, I probably shouldn't be worried too much about replicating what was there, and just make it as strong as possible. It will never be a show car, and I'll likely modify the outer panel to fit the larger 15" tires im using anyway.
