Re: Odd engine problem
Once again, a whole hearted thanks for the information ya'll have given. I was successful in hooking up the ignition and it now starts without any scary electric arcs.

Re: Odd engine problem
Next question, bear with the mechanically challenged, has to do with the ignition switch. I have three wires; red, purple and green. I figure the red one goes on the post labeled "bat". Where do the other two go. There are five posts on the back of the switch and I don't want to get anything crossed ...

Re: Odd engine problem
Thanks for the info. The purple wire and the green wire appear to be fine, but the insulation on the red wire shows a lot of melting. Hopefully I can get the wires traced today to see how much replacement will be necessary.

Re: Odd engine problem
Made some progress, but developed a new problem. I ended up completely smoking one of the pins in the 8 pin connector. It was the one with the large black wire. Today I simply bypassed the connector and the car turned right over. When I put the key in the ignition, I heard what sounded like ...

Re: Odd engine problem
Well apparently I can't catch a break with this car. I checked the connector mentioned above and found that one of the pins was dark. Scrubbed up the pins and reconnected. The problem continued. Yesterday, my son went to get some food and when he came out the car wouldn't start. Just went down to ...

Odd engine problem
Here's the next chapter of the ongoing saga of my son's 61 sedan. It has started to act up occasionally while driving. First the radio cuts out, and then the motor tries to die. The gen/fan light comes on and if I tap the accelerator the engine picks back up. I have been unable to figure out cause ...

Re: Help with 61 sedan parking brake cable
Well, I have to come out and admit my stupidity. I started checking the cable and discovered that I had missed a pulley under the dash. Felt like a complete moron. It is now properly installed and works great. A big thanks to all for tolerating those of us who are mechanically challenged.

Re: Help with 61 sedan parking brake cable
Update. I got the new cables in and installed. New Problem: the front cable seems to be a little too long. The adjuster is underneath the return spring. Is there anyway to adjust this, or did I do something wrong?

61 Monza doors
Hey folks, I am working on a 61 Monza 900 4dr. I am in the process of changing the door locks and when I pulled the door panels off, it looks like the inner portion has been cut for speakers. Was this ever done at the factory, or did a po get creative?

Help with 61 sedan parking brake cable
I am replacing the brakes on my son's 61 900 Monza and the forward parking brake cable came undone. After I finally found where it had sucked up inside, I found that the end was frayed. I can't figure out how to hook it up to the adjuster rod. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Brake Master Cylinder?
Sorry to hijack the post, but my son's 61 900 was pulling to the right when braking. Took it to the local Les Schwabs and they said the brake system may be "contaminated". Not sure what that means. According to them, if it is "contaminated" it will cost 1-2 k to fix. I think they're full of ...

Re: Finnish 1960 Corvair 700
Hey Frankken, my son was in Finland all last year. He was in Laihia. He spent a lot of time in Vasa but never mentioned seeing a Corvair. That's cool.

Heater help needed
I am working on my son's 61 Monza and discovered that the hose from the engine to the blower fan (left side) was shot. I can see where the hose connects at the engine, I just have no idea where it connects to the blower or how to access the blower. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

1st Time with Corvairs
Hello all. I just purchased my first Corvair, and will need the wisdom of others to deal with it. My 17 yo son recently tore his ACL, so he can not drive the Jeep Comanchee I had got for him. While looking on Craigslist, he spotted a Aqua 61 900 Monza. He instantly fell in love with it. After doing ...
