Re: Checking wiring ignition to starter/battery/coil

Cool animation Brad. When I was 14 my dad gave me the 1964 Convertible with Powerglide. He said "if you can make it run, it's yours". I had that starter on and off about a dozen times over the next several months. That part taught me plenty about electro\mechanical devices. Went on to be a...

Re: 66 Manual Starter Broken Nose Cone

That bendix gear is bad, as long as you are replacing the nose cone put a new drive gear in. A new one is less than $20.00. The gear teeth don't look that bad but now that you mention, the internal sprag clutch in it may be bad. About $40 for both parts and maybe a season or two before I pull every...

Re: 66 Manual Starter Broken Nose Cone

Thanks. I like the out of vehicle test idea. I may put a nose cone and "Bendix" in it and try for another season. Got some major home things to get off my plate first.

Re: Checking wiring ignition to starter/battery/coil

I just pulled my 66 Corsa starter for a different issue. I have not read all of this thread so please excuse me if I cover old ground. When you "bench tested" the starter, did you put 12V straight to the solenoid output into the motor windings? Or did you hook it up like normal to the larg...

66 Manual Starter Broken Nose Cone

The 66 starter removal is so much easier than my 64 PG ever was. However, the broken nose cone on the starter has me worried about "loose rivets" from what I have read on other threads here. I have had this car for 9 years and usually when hot the starter would often not engage and make lo...

66 Convertible door length

The car is 265 miles away and I am looking to have a vinyl cling sign for the doors.

Anybody know within an inch or so how long they are?

Re: How to check for Belt proper belt tension?

Funny thing to read this now. Back in May the belt that came on mine shredded. Just old and cracking. It flew apart. Lucky I found all the chunks. None went down the fan. I've had it 8 years. I put on the spare that came with the car and picked up one at a big box store that the make and model of th...

Re: How to check for Belt proper belt tension?

Take a look at Brad Bodie's reply to the Belt Idler Pulley question from earlier. Brad does it like I always have. I did throw a belt this summer. Put 250 miles on it after a 2-year storage.

How is yours running after we did those carbs a couple winters back?

Full Gas Tank Height Relative to Carburetors

I filled my 66 Convertible all the Way in July. My wife and daughter have been up to where the car is parked and both complained about a real strong gasoline odor. Neither found any puddles or evidence of leaks. The 140 has always stunk up the small garage up there from evaporation. Does anybody thi...

Now that I fixed what the PO did, my choke lock out works just fine. If I can just get up north and get the little car out this summer.

Re: Corvair quit running - I've done all I know to do, need

Please keep us informed. I rebuilt my distributor and kept the points and condensor. Long ago I was a K-Mart "certified" mechanic. Actually NIASE Certified General. :woo: Motohead will know the difference from NIASE and now ASE I bet. :my02: I had numerous tune ups come back using the K-Ma...

I am sure Dave is up to the challenge. However, there will probably be a chicken in the video.
