Full Gas Tank Height Relative to Carburetors

Post by 66CorsaConv »

I filled my 66 Convertible all the Way in July. My wife and daughter have been up to where the car is parked and both complained about a real strong gasoline odor. Neither found any puddles or evidence of leaks.

The 140 has always stunk up the small garage up there from evaporation.

Does anybody think that a very full tank could gravity feed the 4 carbs and allow prolonged evaporation?

thanks

Possibly the fuel tank filler/vent hoses. The carbs should be empty by now.

Once when I parked on a small slope, nose up with a full tank, a carb float stuck open and it filled the cylinder overnight and hydro-locked the engine when I tried to start in the morning. I don't think you are at risk of that happening with the vehicle parked on level ground though.

I've had the filler neck connector hose leak just enough where it stayed wet but didn't drip. That really stunk up the garage but there was no sign of drips under the car. Maybe your situation?
