Re: Turbo motor - 140 heads
One of the engines will remain stock but the one I got without the original heads will receive some improvements over stock components including edis, and possibly a set of oversize vw cylinders. I know about the valve seats and am considering my options. I plan to upgrade the carb (also considering ...

Turbo motor - 140 heads
I have a complete yr motor and another without the heads that came with the '64 spyder. The heads on the complete one and both turbos are correct '64 markings. Oddly enough I got a 140 head with the parts (minus valves & springs) and another with the "65 sedan. I've seen it suggested that the use of ...

Re: MY Dumbest Corvair Moment
It was a cold, dark, miserable morning on my way to get a cup of coffee when I pulled up to the multipump and proceeded to fill my car up with diesel. :zzzz: I kept thinking this place smelled like a truckstop! A few miles down the road the reality came to me as I sputtered to the side of the road ...

Window fuzzies
Has anyone purchased the window fuzzies from Clark's? How do the ones currently available compare with the originals? They need to be replaced on the '65 sedan asap. I welcome suggestions of alternate sources for good quality replacements.

Re: Question about '64 spyder engine HP rating
I was looking at corvair turbo info and parts and have seen several references to the'64 using a turbo setup that was only used that year. Does anyone know how the '64 is different than the '62 - '63 and '65 and later?

Re: Question about '64 spyder
Yep, it fit fine with plenty of room behind it for the moter and trans assembly and the second motor. I got lucky. Towing companies wanted $40 hookup plus $2 per mile ($194 total). Car haulers wanted $325 - $485. I got the '65 hauled from DC for $410 so there's no reason a 77 mile trip from Conneaut ...

Re: my projects - '64 spyder and '65 monza sedan
The seller said the '64 has been sitting in the garage since he purchased it eight years ago. It was intended as a father - son project but the son moved to Texas and lost interest. He also said that the person he bought it from made him agree to sell it back it if it was sold again but he's now ...

Maybe I'll rebuild one of the '64 turbo engines and put it in the '65 sedan.

Re: oh how those pesky Corvairs multiply!
I thought about dropping a bid on a '61 Lakewood but it was all the way across country in Washington (state, not DC).

Question about '64 spyder
Does anyone know what the width from the outside edge of the tire on one side to the outside of the tire on the other is? I'm trying to arrange to have the spyder hauled and may have found someone with a trailer in the area but the distance between the fender wells is 76 1/2" but the overall inside ...

Re: my projects - '64 spyder and '65 monza sedan
Here's some photos of the '65 monza sedan. According to it's previous owner some work was done but it spent much of it's life stored in a barn in Wisconsin. It was driven to Washington DC three months prior to my purchase. The floor is solid but has some surface rust that needs to be dealt with. It ...

my projects - '64 spyder and '65 monza sedan
This all started with my mother prodding me to find her a corvair. She had an early model in the late '60s and early '70s and has wanted another ever since. Recently she's been more adamant about getting a 'vair and a vw bus. Due to a few physical limitations a stick is no longer practical for her ...
