oh how those pesky Corvairs multiply!

Post by Trip »

I'm now up to 5 (yes FIVE) Corvairs, none of them parts cars!

I had no business buying another project car but I just couldn't help myself. The car is a 62' Monza coupe, the much loved Black paint on red interior combo =)

It needs all new upholstery and carpet, I think I can save the headliner with a good cleaning. It's got less rust than is typical up in my neck of the woods but certainly not rust free.

The car was a little rougher than I had hoped, but the seller dropped his price from asking $1,600 a week ago, to posting it for $900 a couple days ago... and after I inspected the car and told him what I thought he let me take it for $500 =) Including fuel and the trailer rental it cost me $700 total.... a little less than I originally got the 63' Monza coupe home for and this one has considerably less rust, but more dents and rougher interior (needs all new cardboard parts).

I know how you guys love your pics here, I'll post some hopefully tomorrow.. right now it is too dark to take any.

Cool Grymm, You know I love that paint combo. And the fact you are saving a Em is even better, ::-):

Ok here we go, sorry in a rush so this is just ALL the photos I took of it slapped up on photobucket.

It looks much better in pics than in person, but I tried to capture some detail on the damage in a few shots.

Those things are breeding like rabbits! It's good I only have one, they can't breed that way.

Don't be so sure, be especially careful of Corvair meets and even local cruise-ins.....

They sure do multiply quick... or should I say they invite their relatives to move in. The '65 Monza four door was delivered on wednesday. Today I went to look at a non-running '64 Spyder and put a deposit on it. Originally ember red but currently wearing black primer. I checked the vin and it's spot welded with the proper model and body style, car #25730 off of the Willow Run line. It will need a good bit of work but it has two complete motor/trans assemblies (one motor partially disassembled) plus a few boxes of miscellaneous parts. The body will need metal in a few spots, it's missing the upper rear seat, and rear floor pan needs attention but for $1,000...

I still have you beat by one Grymm, but you're gaining fast. I got two of mine given to me, not in too bad of shape either. :). Yesterday an older guy near me asked me to make him an offer on a "61 coupe he has. I told him, my wife would make me sleep outside if I brought another one home. lol. I still will probably bring it home though :P

I hope I eventually get to the point where I get some given to me =)

I know I'd never be able to afford/maintain/store more than two or three long term, but I'd really like about eight or nine different Corvairs =P That list can very easily get longer if I let myself dream a little!

I thought about dropping a bid on a '61 Lakewood but it was all the way across country in Washington (state, not DC).
