Re: 140 head removal help
cyl jugs will rust to cyl head making head removal a bear. keep soaking with penetrating oil on both ends of jugs. the 2 dissimilar metals cause corrosion making the jugs very hard to remove from the heads.

Re: corvairs in the snow
You can say all you want about driving Corvairs in the snow, not any worse on the car than setting in someones back yard for 10 years.
I put my cars back together to drive not just look at. Corvair are fun to drive in all weather conditions. get out and enjoy.

I haven't seen that info in assembly manuals. my 60 shop manual shows them. I believe on late models you need fisher body manual.

Re: What size are the steering box bolts? Also WTF?
take your old bolts to hardware store and they can set you up with the proper replacements bolts and the correct hardness.
I believe the bolts are 5/16 diameter with coarse threads.

Re: front brake lines
you can buy the line right length the most time that already has the flares and nuts on the ends.
I bend all my lines by hand with no use of special tools. guess I have the skill then.

Re: front brake lines
if you are replacing the lines just cut them off and use six point socket on the nuts. I believe the only good way to get line in behind gas tank is to remove the tank. Pre bent lines are not necessary, just buy line from local parts store and use old one for guide to bend new ones.

Re: auxiliary heater
I drive my Corvair in the winter in Michigan and stock heater works good till I start driving down the road, still have too many holes in the body. Stock heater in good shape and all air leaks fixed should be plenty of heat. My windows clear off faster in my Corvair then they do in my water pumper.
