auxiliary heater

Post by Greinert »

Has anybody ever put an auxiliary heater in their Corvair? I am wondering because I live in a colder climate, but I still want to drive in the winter. Due to the notorious heating issues in the cars I am looking for alternatives. I have found some through internet searches but a lot of them rely on engine coolant for their heat -_- So that is an issue. Does any body have ideas or suggestions?

The second link above would work...12Volt 300 watt. The other 2 above would be difficult as one is 120Volt and the other is 48Volt. Googling 12V Heaters comes up with a number of possibilities. There is really not anything terribly wrong with the factory systems. They need to be in good repair of course. In very cold climes (snow etc.) Vairs are a bit slow to get the interior warm and to defrost. Supplemental cab heat might be useful. I had an FC with Gas heat. I collected all the parts to connect direct air heat as well (dual heating)tho I never actually installed them as the gas heater would run you out of the cab. I would be tempted to install a gas heater if I had a suitable early model, but, gas heater parts can be tough to find.

I drive my Corvair in the winter in Michigan and stock heater works good till I start driving down the road, still have too many holes in the body. Stock heater in good shape and all air leaks fixed should be plenty of heat. My windows clear off faster in my Corvair then they do in my water pumper.
