Re: Torque converter disconnect from engine
I'm not able to furnish parts like that. I'm not a Machine Shop myself and spend a lot of time waiting for my local guy. I force feed him as best I can and have 2 pairs of heads there now, 2 pairs ready to go there and probably 2 more after that.
I'm trying to assemble my accumulation of good ...

Re: Torque converter disconnect from engine
I usually have the Machine Shop install bronze valve guide liners rather than guides if the guides are tight in the aluminum heads. My first concern is disrupting the press fit of the guide in the head and my second concern is that GM installed rough guides and then drilled them out locating off ...

Re: Torque converter disconnect from engine
Hi Sorry not been on forum for a while, I am not trying to hide anything, live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland Australia. Climate would be similar to Florida, warm, humid, a mile to the Pacific Ocean, we are heading towards winter, with a minor cold snap currently top 23C min of 17C today.

Re: Torque converter disconnect from engine
Very much appreciate the tips, have lubricated the head nuts, will keep doing this for days, will have a go at loosing next week.
Due to other commitments, I don't have time for the Corvair exclusively.
These are not another interesting vehicle.
Cheers Dennis

Re: Torque converter disconnect from engine
Hi All,
Thank you all for your suggestions & encouragement.
I finally was able to remove the torque converter bolt with a chisel!
I slid a 1" wide chisel behind the nut, thinking with a wider area on the casting it shouldn't crack, I was able to hold the nut still, while undoing the bolt, also ...

Re: Torque converter disconnect from engine
Thank you very much for suggestions,
Currently I am a bit overwhelmed, think I have bitten off more than I can chew, knew this was going to be a difficult project for me to remove engine & partially strip down, at least remove all tin ware, fan & heads.
Even something relatively simple, like pulling ...

Re: Torque converter disconnect from engine
Thanks Frank,
Had given up dropping only engine, so have dropped the lot out of the car. Car is on jack stands in a double garage but with space of a single, currently engine/transmission under car. Have redone up other two bolts, the problem one is about 1/4 undone, but I can't tighten or loosen ...

Re: NewMember
The John Player Special Corvair in Australia was one of the coolest Corvairs ever, basically a Formula 5000 with a Corvair looking body. They took advantage of a glitch in the rules and cleaned up for a year or two.
I have a T-shirt but "I'm A Player" is not a message I want to walk around with ...

I was just backing up the computer and decided to browse the last posts of the day. This will be brief.
Some pictures of your A/C equipment would help determine if it is factory (first timers have trouble posting pics here so feel free to ask). I have one 66 original A/C car and another 66 I ...

Hi All,
Sorry for not responding or posting pics, will do when I take some better-quality ones & time prevails. Also still learning to navigate around the forum, even how to have a sign off with my car details.
As for the originality of my car, I was very skeptical when I bought it, knowing less ...

Hi all, Dennis from Australia, ride is a 67 Monza Coupe, 140hp, PG, AC. Whilst I have looked at this site for some information, thought I should join. Have seen 3 Corvairs including mine, an early Convertible and a Sports Sedan race car, which was basically a Formula 5000 (5ltr motor) open wheeler ...
