Hello all,
I'm hoping to get my car painted soon. I have 65 Monza that I'm going to paint in Rally Red (corvette color). I'm wonder if it would be better to use a single stage paint or a two stage (with a clear coat). What is your opinion?
Thanks,
Tony

Willow Glen Car Show Sept. 8 (San Jose)
Hello all,
The Willow Glen Car Show is this coming Sunday September 8. This show is open to all and no registration is required. Simply show up early Sunday morning and find a place to park in one of the lots. There were no Corvairs there last year. Hopefully we can change that this year.

Heater duct
I'm going to be installing the heater duct that goes from the back to the front, but there is a piece missing I think. Is there a short duct that goes from the main duct to the vent in the floor under the rear seats? This is a 65 convertible.
Thanks,
Tony

Re: LM short shift
I've got a 65 Corsa and had the 4 speed shifter rebuilt using the Clark's kit by a mechanic who I think does really good work.
Before the rebuild the shifting was very indistinct and soupy and reverse was tough to find. I could always make it work but it resulted in my wife just not liking to ...

So the flamethrower coil and the stock Impala coil run the same price. Are you saying don't get the flamethrower?

New or re-ground cam
Hello all,
I'm starting the process of rebuilding a 140. I'm looking to add a 270 cam from Clark's. My question is: Should I get a new cam, or are the re-ground cams just as good. My understanding is that with a re-ground cam, I won't have to degree the cam as it will be already set. But does a re ...

good machine shop SFbay area
Hello all,
I'm looking for a good machine shop that has experience with the Corvair engine near San Jose. I know that Mel's Vairs does engine work, but he doesn't do his own machining. Let me know what you all think.
Thanks.

Ignitor or Ignitor II
Hello all. I'm wondering if it's worth the $40 difference to get the Pertronix Ignitor II instead of the regular Ignitor for a 65 140 hp.. Let me know what you think.
Thanks.
Tony
Thanks.

Re: Idle too high
Hello all. I just wanted to let you all know that I figured out the issue. When I rebuilt the carbs, I found that I hadn't installed the throttle plate perfectly centered. That meant that there was a tiny gap (on both carbs) that was allowing air in at idle. I took the carbs off again, re-centered ...

Re: Tach for a Monza Dash?
I installed the boat tack and it works perfectly. I like the look of the tach and that it matches (kind of) the existing style.

Idle too high
I've rebuilt the carbs, but I can't seem to get the idle down lower than about 1100~1200 RPM. I've unscrewed the slow idle control screw out so that it's no longer touching the control arm on both carbs. The timing is spot on at 12deg (61 engine with performance head). Could this be a vacuum leak at ...

Re: Longer Wheel Studs
To remove the old studs, put an old lug nut on the stud and thread till the top of the stud is flush with the top of the nut. Pound it out with a 4lb mallet hammer. Should take 2 or three swings. To install, first freeze the new lugs, then feed them in from the back and draw them them into place by ...

Re: Front shock bolts size on LM
Thanks, but I have all of this info. My question is will a 1/2-13 work instead of the 1/2-20 that seems to be stock. From the Clark's part photo, it looks to be the 1/2-13 course thread nut and bolt. The 5in 1/2-20 bolt seems pretty hard to find.

Re: Front shock bolts size on LM
The OEM bolt seems to be a 1/2-20 5in bolt. I can only find 1/2-13 bolts. This is a course thread bolt. I understand why they would use a fine thread bolt, but do you think it would be OK if I used the course thread bolts?

Re: Front shock bolts size on LM
It looks like it's 1/2-20. Can some one confirm? The 1/2 only fits into the California Corvairs KYG bushings only till the threads stop. Ami missing something?

Front shock bolts size on LM
Does someone know the actual shock bolt size? 7/16 seem too thin, and 1/2 inch too big. HELP!
