Re: My '60 700 Sedan

I've been pretty busy for the past few months with work and school, but the car is coming along nicely. Replaced the pushrod tube o-rings (this was really difficult), cleaned up the valve covers and replaced the gaskets, cleaned up the oil pan, replaced the gasket, and added a reinforcement rail (so...

Re: I'm a 14 year old who just bought my first Corvair, need some help and advice

Welcome!! I got my Corvair at sixteen (seventeen now), so I can understand what it's like to take on a project like this at a young age. As has already been said-- focus on the powertrain. An intact, serviceable 140hp engine would be very valuable on its own and would make a great drop-in on a car w...

Mismatched(?) Parts

Hey all, I recently rebuilt both carbs, the choke, and the distributor on my 1960 four-door, and it looks like the distributor is for a Powerglide car. The engine block also is from a Powerglide car. The thing is, mine is the standard three-speed. This makes me think the engine was swapped at some p...

Re: My '60 700 Sedan

It's always something... I cleaned out the engine shroud last week (or maybe the week before) and am glad I did. It was pretty bad. I'm not done and will get the rest (including the oil filter) soon. I'm also going to de-flash the cylinders while I'm at it. The pictures tell all. IMG_1008.jpg IMG_10...

Re: My '60 700 Sedan

Progress is good, but sometimes we face delays. Mine's been stalled out for about a month while other priorities get taken care of. Looking forward to getting back on it in about a week. It does appear that you have the original engine because of the exhaust gas tube sticking up in front of your ri...

Re: My '60 700 Sedan

PROGRESS!! Finally got to working on the car some more. I didn't do much, but at least I did something. Removed and disassembled the carbs. Both are dirty but fully intact. It looks like the right one was opened at one point in its life, because the float does not match, and one of the bolts holding...

Re: My '60 700 Sedan

Here's some pictures. It was hard to get a good angle in our tight garage. The pictures don't really do a good job, in my opinion. I'll try to take some better ones when I'm under the car in the near future. I keep all of my parts in the frunk so I don't lose them, and I didn't feel like pulling the...

Re: My '60 700 Sedan

I've finally gotten back to working on the Corvair. So far, I've put the engine and muffler shrouds back on in preparation for installing the new muffler I got months ago. I've also de-rusted some parts, including the muffler strap, gas tank trap (in progress), gas tank filler line, spare tire clamp...

Re: Marcus's 1964 Monza

Just caught myself up on this project, and I've got to say I'm beyond impressed. I think we're both the same age, but you've clearly got more skills and equipment (and funds) than I do!! I've been itching to tear down my '60 700 sedan this spring and your work has fed into that desire lol. I bet you...

Re: My '60 700 Sedan

There are many things you will need to investigate to determine the true condition of your Corvair, Many of the things you mentioned that you are addressing are the superficial, visible items that have deteriorated. The functional condition of the internal engine, transmission, etc. must all be con...

My '60 700 Sedan

I made a comprehensive introductory post back in August. Please read it first. Here it is: https://www.corvairforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17909 I'd like to update on the car since then. I now have all the parts I think I need to get it running. I've bought a gas tank, sending unit, muffler (with...

Re: What is the age range of Corvair Fans? (POLL)

I think I'm the youngest of all. I'm sixteen (seventeen in April) and don't even have my license yet! (At least I have my learner's permit though.) I bought my Corvair ('60 700 Sedan) out of impulse, but I sure don't regret it!

Re: New Corvair Owner at Sixteen Years Old

Welcome to the site. That's very cool! Looks like a good one. You got in at a good time. Nobody had ever reproduced the 1960 gas tank until just recently and I don't think they will do it again so good for you on buying one of them. I did as well. I really like the 1960 Corvair's. They are unique a...

New Corvair Owner at Sixteen Years Old

Per the title, as of June this year, I am the proud owner of a 1960 Chevy Corvair 700 Sedan. I towed it on a trailer to my home in northwest central Indiana all the way from northwest North Dakota (with help, of course) because it was a good deal and in the family. It has the 80hp engine with a thre...
