Leak ?

Looks like I have a leak at this elbow. But, I have know idea what it is. Looks like it is attached to the turbo. Has anyone ever seen this? Is there a fix?

It is the oil return line from the Turbo back into the case. Pretty common to get a leak there.

The oil feed line to lubricate the turbocharger runs from a location next to the generator/alternator to the turbocharger. The circulating oil must have a path to return the oil back to the engine. On the Corvair it exits the turbocharger near the bottom (your leak area) and returns via a metal tube into the right cylinder head (valve train area, behind the valve cover).

Thanks but I think it is leaking at the elbow. Not so much from the rubber hose

You'll have to take it apart. Remove the top band clamp from the rubber hose. Spray some WD-40 on the top of the hose so the tube will rotate easier. Undo the nut holding the bent tube from the elbow. Turn the tube left to remove it from the elbow. Then remove the elbow from the turbo.

The tube connects to the elbow with a compression fitting. You can get a replacement from Home Depot in the plumbing isle.

Clean all of the oil from all of the threads on the elbow and the hole where it screws into the turbo. Put a thread sealant on the male threads and replace the elbow in the turbo. I use this stuff:

Put thread sealant on the tube side of the elbow, line the tube up with the elbow and tighten the nut to compress the sleeve on the tube. Replace the top hose clamp. Make sure both hose clamps are tight.

Note: Do not get sealant inside any of the oil line plumbing...

Let that sit a day or two so the sealant dries.
