Best internal engine cleaner.
I have a 65 Corsa that I bought recently that was sitting for years. Car runs well but I fear the internals are all clogged with old oil. Is there a good additive to clean out the internals prior to new oil change.

What makes you think it's gummed up? I've used Seafoam before, but you might not like what comes out when you're done... Might be enough to force you into a rebuild, it really gets the gunk out.

yeah sometimes if you seafoam it, all the built up gunk falls into the oil pan and cloggs up the oil pick up screen and then your motors toast, you can try it, just keep an eye on your oil pressure, and you will probably want to drop the oil pan after and clean it out

I've never used any oil additive. I primarily stick to a good synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 and change the oil filter (from Clark's Corvair Parts for the Corvair) with each oil change. The additives and detergents included in the oil by the manufacturer take care of the rest. If you have a turbocharger a synthetic oil is even more important, as it helps to prevent burning or overheating oil deposits on the turbocharger bearing and turbine shaft. I have always used it in my 1991 Toyota Supra Turbo for the same reasons.

Incidentally, staly away from GL-5 gear oils in the Corvair manual transmission transaxle. GL-5 can damage manual transmissions that utilize "yellow metals" in the gearset. Stick with GL-4.

Best thing I can personally recommend is to drop the oil pan and remove the valve covers and clean it out as best as you can with solvent such as Brake Cleaner and then keep changing the oil. I personally like using Brad Penn as it has the additives needed for the flat tappet camshaft.
Engine flushes can knock things loose and cause an engine that runs good to start smoking and/or making noise. I would stay away from them.

most engine cleaners are solvent based & thats why you can get into trouble w/junk clogging the oil pickup & getting stuck in lifters etc.
detergent based http://www.auto-rx.com wont have the same problems you get w/a solvent engine cleaner. this stuff works good & wont damage your engine.

HI,for yearsI have been using 2 qts of 30 wt oil and 3 qts of trans oil,this is SUPER hi detergent oil,run (idle) watch temp guage,I usually let run about 1 hour,change oil and filter. I once bought a 1961 Corvair Station Wagon (bought it in 1969)the oil had probably never been changed,when I drove it from Miami fla to Ft lauderdale,it was blowing smoke very badly,it sounded like someone was inside the engine banging on it with a hammer, pulled the oil pan plug,the oil came out like a long string,I had to pour diesel fuel thru the engine (with pan plug out) to finally get the oil to start running like oil normally does,then I went to the trans fluid and oil mix,I let it run for an hour,changed oil and filter, new points,plugs and condenser,and generator,it ran like new,this was the ugliest car I had ever owned,lots of surface rust,torn seats and headliner,green,very very ugly,I drove it to Oakland,Ca,put it on the ship,to Okinawa,(I was in the Army) had it ALL painted,Metallic Blue,$125.00,complete interior,headliner,door panels upholstery and carpet $125.00, my wife drove that Corvair for 3 years,only problem,had to change the ignition switch,That Corvair turned out to be the best Corvair ive ever owned,Ive owned ( Corvairs,Sold it in 1973 for $800.00,,boy was I dumb,Shouldve kept it...
