Hi all been awhile since I have been on here haven't driven my monza in a long time last time I drove it the generator went out took it apart and half the the commuter was burned probably shorted took awhile to find another one a friend of mine had one off his corvair and was a working unit I put it on and was working adjusted the regulator for proper voltage and amps all was fine when it is reved up one of the brushes started arcing same as with the old generator and regulator fluctuates can not keep it adjusted so I need a new reg will this cause the arcing? Also the reg for my car is 65.00 but they have one for a corvair with air conditioning for 42.00 will this reg work I see no reason why not but its a lot cheaper

All my cars have alternators but see Clark's tech pages for regulator and generator tips.

Just in case you don't have a shop manual, here are the appropriate sections..
Many EM Corvair owners might suggest that you consider taking this opportunity to abandon the older generator system completely and convert to an alternator. The cost of the conversion components may be higher than simply replacing the existing faulty items, so you would need to weigh the costs and benefits and do a little homework to determine just what is involved. If you would ever consider this conversion, it might be a good time, rather than spending money on generator parts that would have to be abandoned later if you were to decide on the switch to an alternator at a later time.

The generator was polerized there is nothing wrong with generator works on other corvair just fine just wanted to know about the two different regulators if the cheaper one will work I have no interest in changing over to alternator like to keep it original as much as I can never had a problem with it untell the gen light stayed on after you shut off the car and then the old generator burned out so I know it needs a new regulator
