Roll bar kit

Post by Ira »

Okay wasn't sure where this should be so I threw it in here.

Anyhow looking at installing a four point, bolt in roll bar around the rear seat. I wanted to stick with a bolt in kit so it could easily be removed just in case someone wanted to restore this vehicle.

It would be so easy if someone (a reputable firm) designed and sold kits for one... but so far I haven't found one.

Worst case scenario would be that I have to have my fabricator build one out of DOM... which would be costly.

Ideas?

Jeg's part# 550-940101K Jegster 4-Point Roll Bar Kit $139+ $99 shipping.

Generation I Camaro main bar is a plug fit but worked really good in the racecar.

My application is the 10-point cage but 4-point is a roll bar.

I did notice they have a listing for Vega/Starfire now...might fit better.

When you install you must sandwich the body at all mounting points to be effective.

Also as many gussets as possible...see my pictures...they will save your life.

Otherwise it's only for show!!

Regarding the gussetting etc.... I totally agree with you Phil!

I've been out of the rock crawling hobby for a couple of years now but you could easily tell the difference between the guys who wanted to just look good and the guys (and girls) who valued their life. Yah gotta love the chromed-bolted in-"Fall Guy"-styled roll bar, mounted in the bed of lifted trucks. :rolling: I'd attach a picture as an example but I'm sure you get what I'm talking about.

I'm assuming that the Jegs kit is seam welded tubing as opposed to DOM or otherwise it would be much more expensive. Honestly though for what I'll be doing... it'll be plenty.

Thanks!

How about the guys using black pipe or exhaust tubing..... :banghead:

I know this thread is long past dead but how hard/simple would that cage from jegs be to install? The reason why I ask is because I have completely stripped my interior and my back seat is trashed. I am wanting to autocross in the future but don't want a full race cage and I figured now would be a good time to install one.

Not sure where you are located, but Spadano Enterprises in Chelmsford MA builds custom roll cages. He did a full custom main hoop for my 66 vert. its made from NHRA DOM spec tubing fully plated sections have been added under mounts for extra support, as well as a large square tube under the main hoop for side impact protection. he really went above and beyond on this one!

:goodpost:

:google: :search: I did a brief search. Here is some additional information on Spadano Enterprises.

They do custom paint, body and rust repair too, which could be very helpful to the Corvair owner in the New England area (about 35 miles northwest of Boston)...
