Miss Daisy 1964 Spyder 140hp 4 speed

Post by jtvairs »

John & I picked up this little Corvair a few years ago. It was a reluctant purchase, as John isn't a convertible enthusiast, and he prefers late models generally to early model Corvairs. The previous owner was pretty adamant that he wanted John to have this car, as he knew he couldn't maintain the car the way it needed to be kept.
Our story is that we grew to love the little car we named "Miss Daisy". We have acquired a lot of cars over the years, to date about 25 in the past 5 years have found new homes and we have 10 currently. BUT, when you have several cars, they take priority over one another and one day you decide, what do we do? Our philosophy is that we like to pass on cars in the most honest condition to good homes. If a car is driver quality, we communicate clearly the opportunities for the next owner, and make sure they are aware of the condition of the car. Daisy's makeover was generated by interest from 3 potential buyers. Long story short, we took her to have the sheet metal repaired (correctly) and ended up going forward with a complete makeover. New trunk and deck lid, all the hail dents removed and the rocker sheet metal repaired and a sparkly new paint job.
We purchased a group of parts from an older collector, and we scored most of a set of nos rocker chrome. That, and a supply of bumpers we could pick the best and have a great looking car when finished. We don't have to have perfection, but Miss Daisy is looking darn good these days.
The 140hp LM engine is a nice running car, and the trombone exhaust provides a nice sound. She needs some shocks and a few tweaks here and there, but when finished, the next owner will be very pleased with the results. Why don't we keep her? Our mission is rescue. We love them all, we keep them for a time and we set them free! The right owner will come along, in the meantime, we'll enjoy this snappy driving little Vair!
We'll update the photos after we get all the chrome installed and I need to include pics of the interior!

I hope you will keep me in mind when you are ready to release this one "into the wild". Maybe I can sell my boat, my truck, and a motorcycle. Then my wife might let me have it!  ::-):

I would love to have an EM convertible parked in my garage, next to my LM convertible.

Teresa, Daisy looks great, Congrats.
It will be a great little car for whoever is lucky enough to have it.

I'm glad you guys could finally give it the attention it deserves.
I'm sure it will make it a much easier sell now that she's all cleaned up.

Best of luck with the sale, I still love the color combo.

I'll pass out the word.

Well, Brad....and other Corvair Enthusiasts. Daisy is ready for a good Corvair Home. Check Des Moines Craigslist, we have her listed there. Turned out very well, if we do say so ourselves. But thinning the herd is necessary, as we have 10 right now and some projects to do before cruising season. You'll find this car to be very clean, the paint and body work are awesome, it was done right. Chrome is good and it runs very well. Check the ad and contact us for more info.

anyway thanks for looking everyone, and thanks to all of Miss Daisy's fans who have been watching the project.
