Tricks for repairing leaky powglide cable
The title says it all. I have heard that the cable housing itself leak and that it can be repaired by cleaning it aplying silicone and placing a neoprene tube over the repair to protect it. I also hear removal of cable from transmission and reinstalation can be a tricky job. I am just wondering if i can get some feed back on this repair procedure, if it works and if there are any experiences and/or tricks anyone can share. Thanks as always.

the cable needs to be relaced if leaking there is a seal in the cable housing replacement is a pain the trans side is easy just a ball and fork
Re: Tricks for repairing leaky powglide cable
If it's leaking due to a cracked or scuffed plastic outer cable jacket I've cleaned them up and sealed them with Rescue Tape (self-fusing silicone tape). I didn't have to remove the cable and they've been leak-free for years. Replacing the cable is not as easy as it seems.

Re: Tricks for repairing leaky powglide cable
Thanks AZDave! I know. I have heard it can be tricky but others have described the job as being pretty strait forward. I think it is getting the cable back in and attatched to the case. In any event. the cable has already been repaired in this manner and it doesn't seem to be leaking at the said repair area. However where the cable enters the case is a bit wet weather it is the cause of the big fluid leak I still cannot tell. right now I am under the car cleaning everything and praying it isn't the main seal........hmmm I will get back. any one know if there is a tell tail for a main seal leak. Most of the fluid seems to be congragating on the drivers side of the tranny....more later.....

Re: Tricks for repairing leaky powglide cable
case closed. It was the governor oring after all. That is one bugger to detect and to repair for a novice like me. Not one drop comming out after I replaced the oring. That oil snaked down and around to the front of the tranny fluid pan and had all indications of being from the pan. but I cleaned that sucker so well that I finally found it with a mirror and a rag to stop the flow...then I was able to trace it. The governor hold fluid after the car is just run but after it drains out it stops leaking. It made it a challenge to find....
