Fair Price for 140HP cylinder Heads
Hi Folks. I've been buying parts for an engine rebuild(modification) I plan on doing. I've already purchased a '64 110HP engine, and now I'm shopping around for 140HP cylinder heads. I'm seeing a price range of $99-$199 for 140HP heads. What is a fair price for 140 cylinder heads nowadays? Thanks.

Do you mean $99~$199 for a pair?? I think a good set of premium virgin heads would be around $300~350 / set. And I mean in need of a going-thru. I guess you could find them cheaper, but I don't like using blemished/repaired heads if I can help it. Maybe my estimate is a tad high, I dunno.

Not a pair. The prices I've been seeing are for each head, so about $200-$400 a set. Thanks.
Re: Fair Price for 140HP cylinder Heads
2 to 4 hundred for a pair of 140 heads that are useable as is would be pretty good deal I think
A rebuilt set would fetch more and a set with bad seats may be less.

Re: Fair Price for 140HP cylinder Heads
Crazy somewhat but I caught this thread and thought I would mention , that I just found on ebay a match pair for $265.00 plus $52.00 s/h. p/n #3856728 and the 140 logs attached as well. They just shipped out today. I don't see much our way up in the Northeast but they are around if they don't hit the junk yard crushers.
I found this car on the side of the road up here in the Maine mountains. I was in need of a hood. I found a complete 140 in the car and powerglide to boot $200.00 is what I paid for the car. This nice pair of heads, I have had for over 37 years and had them worked for $500.00 a year ago down in Mass. and that may sound cheap for head work , the guy is super but these were a good set of heads to work with. I have seen them on ebay as you said but just keep your eyes & ears open. Ask questions and good pictures so in hope you don't get junk. Seems to be in that the 140 heads have been running that $250 -$400.00 range per pair unworked , unless you can find a car as I did , if that is any help , CG

WoW CG. How do you get so lucky. Wish I had luck like yours. I paid $200 for a 110HP engine alone. Awww well. Still searching for a car thoguh (not rushing though). I guess I have to be patient and keep looking.ctryewe wrote:Crazy somewhat but I caught this thread and thought I would mention , that I just found on ebay a match pair for $265.00 plus $52.00 s/h. p/n #3856728 and the 140 logs attached as well. Re: Fair Price for 140HP cylinder Heads
WOW
I did do good on ebay, the 140 heads just arrived and in nicer shape than the ebay pictures. It was a killer buy
It cost me about your engine and trip. No bend or broken fins, needs deflashing , surfaces have not been touch or machine, see not flaws. One exhaust tube needs replacement ( I have two) other than two or three broken bolts on face , really good good shape. They may even be useable as is but I try not to do things that way. The logs appear to be excellent and the thermister as well.
The packageing was awsome how they came.
They even protected the carb studs .
I already call the machineshop in Ma. to give a heads up they are coming next week . I'll let them do there VO DO MAGIC again for me. All I got to do is repack and ship again. Jack his family are super machinist. If you want there number PM me or call. There are deals out there , just got to hunt , maybe luck or maybe bless , I preferre blessed. That could be easy , CG

Made it back today
and I'm thoroughly happy with the condition of the engine
The previous owner had it running before he decided to sell it (didn't ask why)

Re: Fair Price for 140HP cylinder Heads
You might check closely if you intend to install those 140 heads on that 64 164 engine. That was a one on year that the cylinder OD was the same as the 145 engine. You can probably make a spacer to fit the head . Other wise the cylinder will be loose in the head.
Just a "heads" up.

140 heads go for $400 plus a pair most of the time, but as seen on this thread you can find great bargains if you look hard enough.

How 'bout these?......I'm wondering if they really have the Porsche "deep seats" installed. Might be a good deal for the right person!

porsche "deep seatrs" wont fit in a 140 head. better to see if it has the correct vair deep seats.

Kevin, every time I see your engine I drool in my keyboard. Sooner or later I'm gonna need a new keyboard!
