Lowered the front of my 66' Corsa

Post by Motornoggin »

I kinda went maybe a bit too low, but one coil did basically nothing, two coils went a bit too far. I need to do something to the back end for some asthetic balance, though I do admit to liking a bit of rake. It drives well and I can tell the handling is a bit quicker due to the increase in spring rate. It will clear the curb and gutter into the driveway, so that's a good thing.

I installed a 69' Camaro chin spoiler too. They look nice on late models IMO.

Funny story, and I'm secure enough to admit this, but after I jacked it up, pulled the stands and lowered it back down, I couldn't get the jack back out from under it. I couldn't jack it back up either because the handle was as far down as it would go and was stuck under the spoiler. I had to wiggle it around to the side and pull it out in front of the wheel.

Think so? I dunno, I'll give it a while and think on it. I do like a rake, but I don't know that this has a balanced look.

I always have a small scissor type jack around, the type found in old Toyotas , this usually lifts it up enough to get the jack out............., and back in of course , cos youre gonna need to jack it up again one day........BEAUTIFUL car by the way

My son's car (Nissan 240SX) is ultra-low and he always drives it up on a couple pieces of 2 X 4s wood under each front wheel before he even starts to try and get the floor jack under it. Might be an idea.

It looks pretty awesome IMO. Maybe later on you could "dial it in" by using slightly taller tires, if you're up for that. I don't know how many would consider going back to a taller profile, but I've gotten a bit tired of low profile tires because of how they seem to slam on potholes and dips. That's probably why my '65 rides pretty good with 2 coils cut......because I'm running 205/60/15s up front and 225s out back. Not exactly low-profile by today's standards.

A really hard slam on a dip or pothole with super low profile tires can almost ruin my day. Worse than fingernails on a chalkboard.

Yeah, taller tires are on the agenda, but it's darn hard to justify the expense when these have less than 500 miles on them. They are 205/50-15's all the way around. I would like to go with pretty much what you have, size wise.

I have 195/60 14s on mine, and I wish I'd gone 215/60.. but my tires are only 3 months old now.

Your car looks GREAT! I really like the wheels, they look really good on that car. I like a little rake too, maybe a touch lower in the back for the perfect stance. My humble opinion!!! ::-):

Yeah, since I'm off tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be crappy, I may tackle that. Maybe a single coil, or 3/4... I'll do some simple math in my simple head. I like the wheels too. I had them laying around, so the price was right. I am considering painting them red and adding a thin trim ring, but that's down the road a bit.
