Looks like a cool car and a fun project. A 140 4 door automatic . The floors look real solid. Please post the trim tag when you get a chance. :tu: :tu:

Holy cow, dude! I've bought 2 corvairs that had been infested like that, but not that bad. I figure that the corvair heater ducts running up into the interior are the ultimate conduit for them. Careful cleaning that stuff up.....don't want to get hanta virus.

:welcome2:  :welcome: Welcome to the Corvair Forum!

I was born in Southern California (Van Nuys) and raised in Northern California (San Jose). What part of Northern California are you living in?

The link below will provide you with a list of useful websites that are Corvair-related. Some of the links will lead you to an extensive technical library that will allow you to download shop manuals and other technical references in Adobe Reader format at no cost. There is also a link that will help you to locate nearby CORSA (Corvair Society of America) club chapters. You will also find a list of essential Corvair parts suppliers. Clark's Corvair Parts in Shelburne Falls, MA is the biggest and oldest Corvair supplier in the world. You will find a link that can provide you with a series of videos that amount to a tour of the Clark's Corvair Parts facilities. Parts suppliers such as this truly make our Corvair hobby possible.

:dontknow: I would like to encourage you to expand on your initial post and tell us more about yourself, your mechanical knowledge and experience, your Corvair interests, and your goals for your '66 Corvair. Helping us to know more about you will help us to write comments to you that are tailored to your needs and experience. Is the sedan equipped with a 4-speed or Powerglide automatic? Knowing your city location might suggest some helpful nearby support, such as a local Corvair owner's club chapter. If there is a local CORSA (Corvair Society of America) club chapter near you, joining such a local Corvair group may be a big help in getting answers and recommendations that would be useful to you.

I just bought my 1966 Corvair Monza sedan a year ago and had it shipped from Costa Mesa, CA to my home in North Carolina. That Corvair sedan was also "born" in Van Nuys, at the Chevrolet production plant there. It had four previous Southern California owners, and never left Southern California until I bought it. My wife and I use it as a "daily driver", and it draws a lot of attention wherever I go with it. It is fitted with a 110hp engine, Powerglide transmission, and factory air conditioning. My other Corvair is a 1966 Corsa convertible with 140hp 4x1 engine.

Oh cool! Blue is my favorite color. I have been restoring or "fixing up" cars practically my whole life. Mustangs and other Fords, Chevys, VWs, dune buggies, MGs, Porsches and some motorcycles too.

I just picked this one up- I couldn't resist it. It's a one-owner been in Norther CA all it's life, sitting for 30+ years. It is solid and very complete. This is my second Corvair. My first was a 1963 turbo spyder. It was in a little better shape with no rats. I joined the local Corvair club. Somebody bought it from me after I cleaned it up, replaced the rusted out floor pans and got it running good, etc... It was a four speed. I liked it but I wanted a later model with an automatic for me and my wife to drive around. It actually took a long time to find a four door. I brought it home and started working on it and WOW- RAT FINK CITY!!!

I got on this site because I was inquiring about the bellows. Good thing because I found the New Design the engineer sells on Ebay. Perfect!! I thought- OK i'll join.... Whoo hoo!!! I am in Fair Oaks, CA. Probably going to move though. Looking for a place to retire, or SEMI-retire. LOL!

:tu: That is a nice looking Corvair sedan, and a nice collection of vehicles! I'm familiar with the area around Fair Oaks. i used to travel there while I was in the Air Force, on TDY (Temporary Duty) to McClellan AFB and the North Highlands Air National Guard Base on Roseville Road back in the 1980s, which is about ten miles west of Fair Oaks. The last time I was there I rode my Honda CB1100F motorcycle from Camarillo (Ventura County) in Southern California up the Pacific Coast Highway, through San Jose, and then continued to the Sacramento area. That was a beautiful ride!

I currently own a 2003 Yamaha FJR1300 ans a 2002 Suzuki Hayabusa, but at age 68 I think it is time to sell the Hayabusa. That bike is a little too much for me!

Hey! Nice collection of vehicles! I really like that LC350 import, because I know they weren't in the U.S. those years. I also dig the '73 caprice estate wagon. We had a similar loaded 454 version, which at age 17 I'd flip the air cleaner lid and rev it to within an inch of its life!

Rats and bikes, sure!.....I've had many! My current green '65 turbo corsa had a pretty decent infestation, which is how I got it cheap! 😁 (that circular thing is a nest with a liberal distribution of turds). My current stable of bikes are 3 blue '83 suzuki GS1100e's and a '73 Kawasaki H2.

I'm a big fan of the LM 4-door w/ PG, and feel a sense of missed opportunity hearing of your recent, SF-bay-area purchase. Good to hear you've joined the local club. Mel in Santa Clara is a good resource for all things mechanical, particularly engines.

Mel's Vairmart has been in the San Jose area working on Corvairs for a long time. He may be able to help you, if needed. If that location does not suit you, you might check with the San Francisco chapter of CORSA, or with Seth Emerson in San Jose for recommendations.

Seth Emerson is a Corvair aficionado and accessory supplier who is based in San Jose. He is also a contact for Silicon Valley CORSA (Corvair Society of America). He might be able to point you in the right direction while you are visiting San Jose and the San Francisco Bay area. Here are the links to Seth Emerson's websites....

Hi Ya'all! Thanks for all the feedback, support and inspiration. I've been working on the creampuff also named "sweety pie" and it's been really fun and rewarding. I have ordered parts from Amazon, Ebay, California Corvair and the entire new interior from Clarks. I cleaned every nook and cranny with detergent and bleach water. WHEW! I took the long heater duct off and cleaned it out thoroughly, took everything apart and then finally took off the blower motor itself and this is what was hiding inside. Wow!. Those rats! So I was inspired enough to buy a Rat Fink T-shirt! LOL!
When I was searching for parts on Ebay, I found the shirts and it brought back memories. But the seller didn't have my size, XL, so that made me search online and I found the official Rat Fink website, RATFINK.COM and of course they had the T-shirt I wanted in my size in stock and it was actually cheaper than Ebay and they shipped it super fast and included a cool sticker. I am now a fan AGAIN!
I also attached the body plate so maybe you guys can tell me more about the car. It is coming along great- I have to say that I enjoy working on this car more more than any other project so far even with the rats. I hope to actually get it running next week and make some noise. Not sure about the carburetors- I will probably, definitely, need some help with that. They look to be in good condition, but obviously they will have to be cleaned/rebuilt and adjusted. When I tested the linkage and opened the primaries, the secondaries didn't move or do anything at all. It looks to me that the linkage was way too loose and out of adjustment. I have a hard time believing that they operate totally on vacuum alone. I have the four carbs as it is a 140 engine. So any advice would be appreciated.
I am now thinking about getting it repainted!

Thanks again for the all the inspiration you guys! I love the pictures of the bikes and cars. You have a Kawasaki H2? Wow, that is my favorite bike! I should have bought one a while ago- now they are getting so expensive and hard to find. I should have never sold my Yamaha RC3509LC. It came through Canada. I rebuilt the engine and restored it and it was great. At the time I thought I got good money for it but I now know I will probably never get another one again. Oh well! Can't keep them all! I don't have a huge warehouse and money like Jay Leno!
HAPPY MOTORING!!

I think I saw that car for sale on Craigslist. It looked really nice and it was listed with a great price. Glad you found a nice one!
