Setting Timing Right

Post by frez »

Hi everyone,

So i just bought and installed the new A/R from Clarks. They told me conflicting info regarding timing first as per the website 18 with the tube pulled and plugged

then once I attached the A/R my timing jumped to like 28. So I emailed them and they said now to set it to 18 with the tube installed to the A/R. Any idea which is correct, and do i just set the timing by aligning the notch (while running under timing light strobe) to that number? Is it that simple or did i miss something in doing it. I didnt write down what it was prior to me adjusting

Set the timing to 18 with the line disconnected and then connect it just like you did initially. Drive and fine tune from there. The timing jumps when you connect the line because the vacuum advance is advancing like it should. If you don't want the extra 10 degrees advance when idling then you have to set up a vacuum solenoid to turn the vacuum signal on and off to the A/R unit.
