Thank you for the help!

Post by wqqdster »

A few months back the '68 95hp Corvair engine in my roadster dropped a valve seat. That engine had been in my car since '81 and had powered me through many thousands of trouble free miles. I wasn't sure how to go about repairing it.

I wanted to add a little horsepower and came on this board to try and find a 140 hp engine. Someone here turned me on to a couple 140 engines up in Portland and I drug my trailer up there and brought them home (1300 miles in two days). I disassembled one of the engines and sent the heads to a friends machine shop to be redone.

I wanted a dual exhaust system and built one while the heads were being worked on. Members here helped me with a myriad of technical questions which were answered quickly and completely so when the heads came back I was prepared to tackle reassembly.

I just got back from a late night ride and I am COMPLETELY satisfied with the results! There were little headaches along the way (if it was easy everybody'd do it!) but there is a huge increase in power and the exhaust sounds like an E Type Jag.

Thank you all for your feedback, technical help, references and general encouragement to me and many other members. To have help like this when so many others ask "Who made the Corvair?" ensures that our babies will be around for many more years.
