Front Speaker Install

Post by Lunar_Camel »

I just received my new speakers from Clark's. Image
But I'm having a devil of time putting them in. The bracket supplied is too long and the original bracket makes the speakers too short. They just sort of float below the speaker grill.

Does anyone have any experience with these (or any speakers for that matter) so I can install them right before I put everything back in place?

I don't know if it will help you but this is how I adapted the factory bracket for my home-made dual speaker arrangement.

I haven't seen the Clark's bracket or how the back of their dual speaker is set up. Can you post a picture of the bracket and the other side of the speaker plate?

The back of the speakers look just like yours (they're Kenwoods). The bracket is an "L" shape about three inches high. In the up position, it hits the top of the dash. In the down position, the radio is in the way.

I like your setup though. I may have to try something like it. Either that or cut out the original speaker frame to fit the new speakers.

Here's an update on the speaker install.

I used the bracket that was supplied with the speakers. The measurements were almost the same as the old speaker with the original mount. The new mount just needed to be trimmed a little from the back so the screw would fit and line up with the bottom speaker mount.

I trimmed just enough off the back end of the bracket so the original screw mount would line up with the slot (see bottom of the photo). The rest was just putting everything back in place.

I also installed the Redi-Rad to the original radio.

The radio works fine for an original even though its only AM and doesn't have stereo. But now I can connect my I-Pod or my cell phone to play my music.

The sound quality is pretty good, you just have to fine tune the radio to hit the right frequency.

Mine came from Clarks... The 'entry level' units... mine seemed to clamp up tight, but my bracket had a leg and went below the OE bracket... Photo follows... Hope it helps...

I cut a wooden block for two 4" speakers. used all factory fastenings, and then made a styrofoam housing that improves the sound 1000%

Glued over the installed speakers, then a 1/2" styrofoam sheet glued over the holes.
