My first '65 Coupe from South Africa

Yes! I now own a '65 Coupe that is a runner and does not need a rebuild. My Corvair Affair is growing and my Missus does not mind Another epic trip through the hinterland of South Africa was undertaken to collect this one from my friend Gary in Pietermaritzburg Kwa Zulu Natal. A round trip of some 1900kms, through some of the hilliest and most beautiful terrain in South Africa. Towing the car back to Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape took a few minutes less than 13 hours of driving with two fueling/eating stops. Will post some more photo's as soon as I get to it. Just had to share this with you guys I am the preverbial boy with a new toy and boy oh boy do I like my new toy.

Hi Guys

Thank you kindly for the amazing post and map Brad you really know how to make one feel SPECIAL . The trip up to Gary did not go without incident. Lost a universal joint on the propshaft centre carrier. The damn thing gave now warning rumble moans or groans, just Howzit now its me and you Anyway got it sorted and we were on our merry way. We split the trip up into two days and we drove along the south of what we call the the Berg that is the Drakensberg mountain range. Very scenic, farming, quiet and very hilly country side. up and down and long sweeping bends for about 400miles. Mountains were covered in snow and it was freezing.

Been so caught up at work, not had much time to browse on the forum, so, took some more pictures. Take a look at this beauty. Will post some picture of the red interior on the weekend. Have been driving her every day and she goes really well, chokes need some attention a new one for me as I have never had chokes on any of my other Corvairs, so will need to find a Manual for this car. Suppose engine bits pretty much the same as the EM

Ok, at last, got my act together. Took some pictures of the car and I like it more every time I get into it. She really looks good but as I look closer there are some little tell tale bumps rearing their heads. Car still looks great though.

Hi Brad
Must admit this car is an absolute head-turner in town. We live in a small community that is driven by the Rhodes University about 5 thousand students and the High & Supreme Court seats in South Africa. The students especially funny enough the girls love the car. When I park in town they will gather around the car and have their friends take photo's etc. The car is so unbelievably original its a shame not to keep it that way.

Was toying with the idea of fitting a set of those 5 spoke Cragar Mags

Problem is they are not available in South Africa, would have to import them at 13SAR:1USD So there goes that idea. Anyway, two months ago I only had eyes for the EM's now this LM is growing on me
