I guess it is because it is Crazy to INSTALL a Gas tank with a Hole in it.

This 1964 Corvair 95 FC Van belongs to Bill. He ordered the Complete Deluxe Forward Control gas tank replacement kit from Clark's.
He already had installed the new Dual Master Cylinder and new brake lines to the block on the front cross-member when I stopped by.
I helped with the front to rear, and both rear wheel brake lines. Then it was time to install the new tank.
.
You do Not want to Pre-install the Filler Neck hoses. You Do want to Pre-install the sending unit and the fuel line hose from the sending unit and have it hanging near the right rear of the tank.
Temporarily Tape the grounding wire from the sending unit to the Right Front corner of the tank with whatever tape you have. There is room to hook it up After the tank is in. Had to use Spray Adhesive to put on the Tank Anti-Rattle strips.
In the picture above you can see, the tank sending unit wire connector, where the tank straps hook up, and where the ground wire goes.
1st; Put the tank straps in like this. Then I fed in the tank from rear to front while Bill held onto the sending unit wire connector and hooked it up as soon as he could. Then you can push the tank all the way up and in (while checking and pulling on the tank straps, and the rubber gas hose-keep it aimed toward the steel gas line at the back) and then support the tank with a floor jack. Check the clearance of the tank to the New Brake lines. (had to bend them a little out of the way) Bill had to use a pry bar to move the tank a little further forward so the strap bolts would go into the holes.
2nd; Put the Strap nuts on the strap bolts and tighten keeping in mind to check the tank clearance on each side so tank is not rubbing up against the heater control cables along right frame. Feed the gas hose through the
frame at back of tank and clamp it to the steel gas line. Finish tightening strap nuts until straps are against the tank.
3rd; Un-tape the ground wire and hook it up to the right side frame. You might want to scrape up the area around the screw hole so you get a good ground. The kit came with a new screw.
4th; As I recall, the small Filler Neck Hose came the correct length but the big neck hose had to be cut to fit. Follow the clamp positions in the pictures. A small 1/4 drive ratchet & a socket and a screw driver were used to tighten down the clamps on the new Filler Neck hoses. Does take some time because of the lack of room.

I am looking forward to seeing this Van back on the road.
Next trip, the shifter goes back in. Unless it is done already? We did the above on the 9th of this month (May).
