New guy in Michigan
New guy in Michigan
Hello everyone, i am new to the Corvair scene, old die hard VW guy. But i was looking for a project and started looking at Corvairs and aways thought the late models were cool. So i bought 1, a 66 convertable, but sold it a few days later. As i was looking for parts found a craigslist ad for Corvairs, but no good details. I got ahold of the guy and went to take a look. He ended up having 3 cars and a bunch of parts, a 66 monza 110 coupe 4 speed that smoked a bit, a 67 convertable automatic that was disassembled for restoration, and a 65 110 monza parts car , automatic, that was running when it hit another vehicle, about 10 years ago. The deal was take all or nothing, so, i am now in hook, line and sinker.
I have been searching corvairforum for the last few weeks for info., and find it great for all the information i am needing.
So i am hoping to get and lots of good info. In the future. And maybe be some help if i can.
Jon

You might find this Corvair Forum link helpful as you begin to explore Corvair ownership. It provides links for free downloads of numerous Corvair-related technical manuals and references, including shop manuals and supplements — all in Adobe Reader (.pdf) format. Listings for good Corvair parts suppliers and for CORSA (Corvair Society of America) club chapters are also included...

Re: New guy in Michigan
Thanks everyone, Brad, i am a bit south of Frankfort, and west of Detroit about 150 miles from each in the Grand Rapids area.
As far as mechanical experience, I have quite a bit, I have built a kit car from the ground up, with VW engine, several buggies, also with VW engines. Never kept track, but i probably have built and rebuilt hundreds of VW engines from stock to my last race engine was 2.4L turbo with NOS at about 500hp.
Lots of other mechanical work on many cars and brands over the years.
But, the layout of the corvair is unique, so any tips are useful.
Thanks

There are two CORSA (Corvair Society of America) club chapters in Michigan. One is in the Detroit area, and the other is apparently almost in your back yard. These CORSA chapters are usually family friendly, and often offer picnics, scenic drives, technical training and assistance, car shows, competition events, etc. You might find that contacting them and possibly joining the club will add significantly to your enjoyment of your Corvair hobby.
