Hi guys
Need some advise, am wanting to increase the rim size on my '60 4dr EM to a 14". Am busy upgrading the differential pinion gear to I think 3.07:1 ratio, got the pinion gear set from Rafee. The car is running a Big Bore 3.2lt motor and the RPM's are too high on the open road. Currently running 3900RPM at 65-70MPH. Currently rims are 13" with Khumo 185/75 tires. Wheel style is old school Maranello Minilites. Problem is in SA we do not have the range/choice of aftermarket rims you guys have.
Problem is I have already "rolled" out the arches to the extent that the paint has peeled off. At pesent I have no more than a credit card thickness clearance and on hard cornering the tyres chafe the arches. The QUESTION is has anyone flared EM rear wheel arches, none of my searches on the forum brought up results! maybe my terminology?? any help??
My direction with the car is to look like a Historic Saloon Race Car. We have a special racing category in South Africa where you can race your car in this category. Car has to have roll cage etc, etc which is what I intend doing. The guys that enter, "agree to race like gentleman" quite competitive, rolling start and your practice lap time determines your 1st race position. Second race you start off in the reverse order of race one and third race you start as you ended in race two. Masses of fun and beautiful cars. From Morris 1000 to Big Ford Falcons, cars have to be 1960 and older to qualify.

By the look of the responses versus views I have had, my ex
wife's favourite line of "why do you always want to do the impossible" might have had some validity after all
!!!

Re: EM Rear wheel arches
If you have the means to do sheetmetal work then anything is possible. I'm not sure if anybody has done it, I know Levair has a race car that has the rear quarters pulled out for wider tires but I've personally never seen any others. It's very much possible, just depends how much you are able to do.

Re: EM Rear wheel arches
You quite right there, I have made some repair panels in my time, was more thinking of whether there are some examples out there for me to look at but am not having much success in finding any pictures. I am not very creative/arty but can copy an example very well if I put my mind to it. Will do a saerch on Levair and see what comes up, thanks for the pointer

First car in the fourth row. I was mistaken in that the early car does have fender flares. It was the late model race car that had pulled quarters.
I'm not sure how it was done but I believe he said GM built this specific car.

Re: EM Rear wheel arches
Thanks for the link, I really like what he has done, looks great and that Norway Corvair is in my opinion the most beautiful EM Coupe I have yet seen. Have decided to do some more hunting and hopefully I will find something that sits inside the fender, seek and you shall find, always great to hear from you guys
