Hello from Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Grew up around Corvairs thanks to my father. He bought a new in 62 baby blue vert for his first new car after getting married. Mother had my oldest sister so that went down the road then around the mid 60's. He bought a pail yellow 64 vert then along came my second sister then that one went down the road.....1971 this great world of ours was blessed with the birth of myself (not sure it was really blessed it just makes me feel better to say it that way). Late 70's dad once again had the "urge" and found a beautiful white with red interior auto 64 vert for my oldest sister to learn to drive in. Early 80's my father didn't like driving the good family car to work and driving it through picket lines at John Deere in Waterloo so he found a 65 110 coupe which "was" the car I had to have. I loved that car. I loved the smell. I loved the look. The strike ended and dad sold the car. The 64 vert was pushed to the back yard after my sister bought 74 Mustang II and was later sold to a local guy who was "The Corvair Guy" in Waterloo Iowa. Now lets move ahead until yesterday. Big Corvair Convention here in Cedar Rapids which has now renewed my love for the car and now brought my two young sons into the mix. They both lust after 65 to 69 vintage which means I may have to sell the Mustang and look for a nice second generation Vair to bring home sometime soon. My brother in-laws grandpa owns a 63 Spyder vert white with red interior much like the one we owned growing up but the turbo is missing. Without anyone actually seeing it is there a way to put a value on it? There isn't any rust visable to the outside but I have yet to look under the car. It runs and shifts through all 4 gears well I have been told and the interior is in decent shape. The paint is cracked but looks good from 10 ft away. Not sure I can swing it yet but would like to get educated before I start trying barter on a price.

Cool story. I'm glad the Convention renewed your interest in these very cool cars. I love my Corvair.

If I had to guess on the Spyder I would say $2500.00 to $3000.00 with a missing turbo.
Check on ebay and craigslist for prices for similar cars. That should help too.

My boys and I had a great time today watching the convention guys run their cars at the local asphalt track here in Cedar Rapids and was impressed with how far some of those guys would push them to turn a better time then they had previously run. Lots of power slides and drifting....if only old Ralphy boy would have been there to see these things run he may have had to eat some of his own words. Started talking with the wife tonight about maaaayyyybeee selling her Mustang vert and possibly replacing it with a Corvair. The boys are on board but we have to now get mom on board...thats gonna take some doing since I bought the Mustang for her a few years ago as a "gift"........what was I thinking....oh well she deserves it for putting up with me and my Mustang fetish for the past 18 years. Gotta say though if I had my choice I'd have to buy a 2nd gen. vair if it was my choice. After growing up with both I still have a soft spot for both but like the lines of the 65 to 69's. What's the story on the Yenko Stingers? Love the Yenko history attached to them but what's the story on the modifications Yenko made? Would love one of those but pretty sure they will be out of my price range. Better start small and work my way up to something like that someday.

Welcome from Alaska - I ran at that asphalt track about five years ago, it was a blast.

You have good taste in wanting a late model :rafman:

Not knocking Mustangs but once you drive a Corvair you will wonder why yo waited so long !

gy67-

I'm from CR as well! I was at the convention, too, but was the chair of the road rally so most of my time was spent tending to that. I highly recommend you join our state Corvair club, Iowa Corvair Enthusiasts (ICE) - see http://www.corvair.org/chapters/chapter526/). Not only will you hook up with other Corvair owners, you can also put the word out that you are in the market for a late model. Feel free to PM me for more info.
