Center consoles from other cars

Post by DemonPig »

I'd be interested to see some pictures if you guys used center consoles from different vehicles.
I know I can buy one from Clark's or California but that will be $200 shipped while I can find something at the scrap yard for 10 bucks.
So if you guys found some that look good and fit well, post them up!

There isn't much in terms of sourcing other cars, especially modern ones.

I have a '63 Chevy ll Nova SS and didn't like the chrome plated "console" on the floor and none I found aftermarket worked for me so I bought some quarter inch thick poplar sheets and made my own...complete with cupholders and a compartment for holding stuff. Used a simple terry cloth towel as padding and covered it with some Madrid grain vinyl used in the day I bought from an upholstery supply house. It looked great when finished and have had several people build their own after seeing mine. Give it a try.

I don't really have skills for that, although I'd love to see a pic.

At the scrap yard, I've seen some Ford Ranger/Mazda B-series and Ford Windstar consoles that may have worked but they were either in poor shape or not black. Which leads me to the question - any of you know of a dye or paint that would work on vinyl and/or leather in high "traffic" areas?

I was trying to find a Caliber console as they seem to fit nice and are often black but that car is still rare here at scrap yards.

For vinyl and plastic try some Plastikote Vinyl dye/paint. Works good on vinyl and adheres to most plastics as well. Available in spray cans.

I'm working on a design of my own with a subwoofer and amp integrated in it for my convertible. I ran a center console from a VW Cabriolet in my Datsun 510. If you can find one I think it may also work in a vair quite nicely.

I think the source for this console was Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, Hobby Lobby, Michael's Stores, or some such...

Went to another scrap yard. Couldn't find anything decent but my buddy found this aftermarket one in a minivan.
Was black top with grey sides and grey sliding lid. I painted everything black to match. Paid zero dollars for it. :)
