Re: 63 Monza on the road after 51 years sitting idle
WOW! Somebody actually really rescued one of those cars. Thanks for doing that. I consider it really rescued because you're driving it and not letting it set up again. My problem is that it looks like mine so it might make for an interesting COTM for May since I'm ready to enter mine too. I might just have to hold off. Welcome and nice work.

Nicely done and nice to see it go into service.
Congrats.

Great looking car, I'm glad to hear it turned out well. You might contact the Communique, they might be interested in hearing the rest of the story (there was an article on the auction back when it happened).

I am blown away by this car
Its like a phoenix rising from the ashes . It reminds me of how well these cars were designed and yet still get very little respect from the greater car community . I say thank you for saving this car as well . This car may be a shoo in for COTY

Welcome Pete,
You and I met very briefly just after you bought the car in Nebraska. I am excited and pleased with what you have done with the car so far. You are personally invited to show us your beautiful car at the CORSA national convention that will take place the week of July 21st in Tacoma, WA. We would all LOVE to see the car and meet you. Enjoy the car.

Very awesome! Please consider writing an article and furnishing pictures to the Corsa Communique for the Corsa community to see!

Pete, I for one really appreciate the way you have photo-documented this car.
I believe that "Kansas City" was the rail head location where this car was unloaded from the train car and started it's journey to the dealership(?)
We LOVE the pictures!
Thanks!

Pete,
WOW! Some car! I never would has guessed it was so beautiful under all that dirt and grime!
So glad you had the ability and the nerve to make the purchase!
I live in SW Iowa and really wanted to make the short trip to the auction, though just as a spectator.
Did you go to the Lambrecht Auction in hopes of buying that particular car, or were you just looking for anything you might enjoy?

Pete, Great automotive preservation story! The only known brand new Corvair that is nearly dealer stock minus those few shock absorbers, spark plugs and lubricants, for your peace of mind. Pull into the Local Chevy Dealer for your 36 month 36K mile Protector-plate warranty service! Tell us how it goes! Also, if you get any recall notices when they type in your VIN! Nader will vouch for the service repair! Happy Motoring!
Re: 63 Monza on the road after 51 years sitting idle
If I had that much markup (as a percentage) in a new Toyota Corolla, I'd be a...well not a rich man...well much better off. On a $20,000 2014 Corolla the "invoice" is like $18,900. I guess in those days they probably didn't have 'dealer hold back' and such. The invoice price paid by dealer was 2070.71
Those were the days!

Re: 63 Monza on the road after 51 years sitting idle
Very cool - and thanks for sharing a very unique experience!
What is the thought on why/how the front carpet ended up in the trunk? I can't imagine that was a dealer-installed bit. The antenna I could believe, but even for that I would have through it would have been installed on the line unless the radio was a dealer add-on. Thoughts?

Re: 63 Monza on the road after 51 years sitting idle
Good evening. If you look at the window sticker the fine print at the bottom of option section states that the radio cost includes antenna but to be installed by dealer, not on line. I have heard of front carpets being supplied in trunk before, maybe not to get soiled??? I'm really not sure however a few of the new impalas at the action also had front carpets in truck with wheel caps in bags as well. I can tell you that the carpet for my car was never installed or foot place upon it prior to me laying hands on it.
