engine bay paint

Post by radicalbuff »

What kind of paint should the engine bay be painted with and the engine parts? I assume a high temp. paint of some sort. Does anyone have any real positive or negative results with certain brands or kinds?

Does not have to be High temp on the shrouding. A good quality semigloss black works well. SEM or Wurth products are excellent. Best is Powder coating.

Powder coating is really the way to go. You can get semigloss or high gloss, various colors. Black is common. The powder coat finish resists chemicals, resists chips and cracks, is easy to clean and looks pretty good.

Mine is high gloss black. Just before a show, use some Pledge spray furniture wax and a soft cloth. Wow, what a shine!!!!!!

I am waffling between a House of Kolor and PPG products right now. My color scheme is flat black on semi gloss white.

You shouldn't need high-temp paint since it doesn't get too hot in the engine bay. I have taken temperature readings during the summer and it really doesn't get any hotter than the outside temperature. The only place that gets hot is near the exhaust logs and I doubt those get much hotter.

Check the temps after a drive (heat soak). But I agree standard paint should be good.

I've used Duplicolor DE1635 semi-gloss black for many years. I buy it in a 6-pack on Amazon and get it delivered for about $5 a can. It's high-heat even though it doesn't have to be.

There is little temp issue with good paint . I have painted a couple cars with exterior basecoat clearcoat to match the exterior...no heat related issues even after years of use.

I did check after driving, doesn't get too hot for normal paint.
