Rear Seat Belts for EM Convertible

Post by Skrain »

Anyone have any idea of how or where to mount the anchors for rear seat belts for an EM convertible? :dontknow:
My 64 has front belts, but I want to add at least 2 sets to the rear if not 3 sets. ::-):

Has any fitted 3 point belts in the rear of an EM yet? If so, can you let me know how it was done (with pics if possible pls).

I'd be curious about this too, with the only difference that mine is a LM sedan.

I've just bought some 'Y' harnesses, that use the lap belt as well.

The harness slips over the lap belt, and the Y (if you can imagine it upside down) goes back to a single point behind the seat.

I don't have them yet but when I do I'll post photo's and links to where to get them.

Assuming it all works of course...

How did the Y harness work out? I have a 64 convertible I need to add seat belts to so that my kid can go with me to the beach.

Would you post the source for this diagram? My 1964 convertible has rear seat belts but none in front. I'd like to know where to locate anchors for front seat belts. Your source may have a front diagram along with the rear diagram you posted.

The factory installed the anchors for the front belts in the floor pan. All you have to do is remove the carpet to find them. There are rubber plugs in the threaded hoses. Before you try to use the anchors, clean them with some brake cleaner, and then lubricate and run a tap through them to make sure that you don't strip the attaching bolts. I believe that GM started installing the front anchors in 1961 in all the cars. My 1962 I know does have the factory installed anchors.

I just got a PM asking how I had gone on with my plan.

Well I'm just about at the point of fitting them, I have been restoring from the front backwards and at 1 hour per evening and 4 hours every weekend it has been a looooooong process.

The Y harnesses look good and a fitting together off the car has given me faith that it should work, but of course the proof is in the pudding. My only concern is with the Y harness fitting to the floor / Firewall, I'm going to have to see what I can attach to that will give the right angle for the fixing.

This is the best thread I've seen to explain the lap belt fitting - http://corvaircenter.com/phorum/read.ph ... 886,224278

As soon as I actually get them fitted then I shall report back here. With pics.
