Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
I would check it over real good feel the body panels from inside the trunk and hood. Make sure to look at the floors as well. Then try to negotiate the best you can. I sold mine for around 1500 and it was in better shape so hopefully he will get down to the same area. I was an idiot to sell mine, live and learn!

Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
Just a quick update for you guys,
My car needs brakes all around, 4 wheel cylinders, rear brake lines, the gas tank was removed and blasted and lined, turbo rebuilt by a friend of mine, new plugs, fresh gas, and all for 2500 bucks cash. So for 4500 I have an excellent mechanically dependable driver! I will post some pics soon once I give it a wash. Then when the snow flies the body work will be getting done!

Pics or it didn't happen!!!
Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
It's been almost 2 months. Pics?
Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
Sorry no photos of the car yet, although everything is thawing out now so it shouldn't be long before I can get it out and take a few.
When I first bought mine it was missing a lot of little parts. So I went to the wreckers and scored like I would have never thought!!
Here is what I got:
Ignition Trim ring (NEEDED)
Ignition
Wiring harness
Radio trim bezel and knobs
3 out of 4 marker lights (broke one getting it off) (my car has 3 already)
Driver side mirror (NEEDED)
Factory Monza wheel (WANTED)
Trunk and hood emblems
Signal arm (just needed the black cap)
Flasher button (hazzard lights) (NEEDED)
Steering column cover (NEEDED)
Metal strip to hide harness (bottom of column)
A switch on the bottom of the dash (im not sure if I needed so took it anyways)
And last but not least..
A-Pillar trim pieces (in awesome shape!) (All I really went for!!!)
Im sure theres some I missed but the photo shows it all. (40$ Canadian and 2 hours of my time)
And to think I pass the wreckers twice a day and would have never thought to stop (thanks for noticing it dad!)

Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
Already got all of the lights to work except high beams (not getting power to the light) and the side markers (hoping I just need bulbs) The reverse light switch apparently was siliconed over.. so I am not sure how desperate I am for them considering its a nice weather weekend warrior car. Seat skins are at home, looking for someone local to restructure and install those and while there away I will plan to replace the carpet and rear package area with speakers likely. Enjoy the pics..

Clark's sells a backup light conversion kit that eliminates the 4-speed transmission switch, in case you are interested. See "Fix-It Kit", which apparently takes less than an hour to install. Did you get your high-beam light problem resolved?ormston wrote:The reverse light switch apparently was siliconed over.. so I am not sure how desperate I am for them considering its a nice weather weekend warrior car.

Nothing done about the highbeam problem, looking into it this weekend hopefully.. I will research this kit for sure thanks so much Brad!

Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
If both high beam lamps have no power, the probable fault is either in the dimmer switch on the floor, or the multi-connector that leads into the trunk.
The (14 B/LBL) brings 12VDC from the light switch to the dimmer switch. The dimmer switch serves as a power distribution point to direct power to the two low-beams only (18 T), or to all four inner and outer lamps (16 B/LG). These dimmer switches DO FAIL! On my 1966 Corsa my dimmer switch developed a defect -- low beams worked, but hitting hi beams turned EVERYTHING OFF!!! I discovered this will driving on a winding mountain road at night while doing about 65 mph. I stepped on the dimmer switch to turn on the high beams, and INSTANT BLACKNESS! Fortunately I got my low beams back when I jabbed the switch again -- somewhat in a panic!
Note that when power passes through the dimmer switch via the (16 B/LG) wire, the power goes to the multi-connector. At the multi-connector, another wire is spliced to that point and goes back to another multi-connector, and eventually is routed to the instrument panel high-beam indicator light. So if the high beam indicator light comes on, this shows that 12 VDC is getting through the high beam switch and to the multi-connector that leads to the trunk. If your high beam indicator light on the instrument panel lights, but the high beams do not, this indicates a likely problem in the multi connector, because the power is not getting through it to the head lights, even though it is coming out of the high-beam switch to power the indicator light on the instrument panel.
On the other hand, if both outer lamps illuminate when the high beams are on, but the inner lights do not, it is possible that they are simply burned out!
If you measure power output on both the low beam and high beam wires as you switch back and forth, check the multi-connector that leads to the trunk. The low beams get their ground connection through the inner high beam connectors, so if the low beams work, the ground is good for both inner and outer bulbs. Do all four lights go out when you hit the high beams?

When I push the high beam switch, my headlights go out, and nothing happens with the High beams. I will have to check this multi unit..

Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
When you toggle the high beam switch to activate your high beams, all four headlights should illuminate AND the high beam indicator lamp on the instrument cluster should come on. If nothing comes on, including the high beam instrument indicator light, the output from the switch is probably faulty. If the high beam instrument panel light comes on, but the headlights do not, the voltage is probably getting to the trunk multi-connector from the switch, but is being interrupted either at the connector or further inside the trunk.
Good luck with your fault isolation and troubleshooting.

Re: Is this Corvair worth restoring?
So!!! Hows everyone lol... This is almost a year late.. Lots has happened, well not really with the Vair, but I bought a new place April this year. We are just finally settling in, and I got myself a garage this time!! I did very very little with the car over winter (lack of space at old house) and have decided this year will be more about re-vamping the interior, and maybe some new tires, and drive the tail end of the year.. if not.. no big deal. I just want to enjoy getting it put back together. I will attach some pictures below, first thing i did was remove all seats and carpet and front seat belts. I noticed the floor was pretty good, some PO patchwork still feels good, but there are two small areas of "day light" just back from the Fresh air vents on either side I will weld up asap before carpet arrives. I decided against going with the 68 padded radio surround, and temporarily used "plasti-dip" paint for now so its all one colour <(I live in Canada lol) a couple more coats and it may hide well.. regardless.. I dont really WANT to repaint the whole dash, its not a trailer queen just a driver.
Sorry for taking so long to get back to here, hope you guys enjoy the pics.
