Just bought a 65 110 Monza

Hello. Just a bought a 65 Monza for $400 in Phoenix. As you can assume, it needs work. I took out all the interior and it is ready for sand blasting. I need help or opinions on what to do about the dash. I took off the windshield and the metal dash and metal strip below the windshield are completely rusted. Where can I find replacements? I didn't see any on Corvair.com. Do I need to custom make a whole new dash? Thanks. Also where is the best place to buy the carbs ( I'm missing both)?

clarks sell a metal repair panel for along the bottom of the wind-shield which extends into the dash a little, but does not repair the ends where the screen pillar meets the top of fender. You will have to fabricate this or use a fiberglass (yuck!!!) repair patch for this area....also sold by Clarks ....check out my pensylvania bondo bucket thread in members rides for pics and video link which shows the area in question.

Clark's carries a replacement for the channel below the windshield. Here's the part:

Thanks guys! I just read your entire bondo bucket thread a couple days ago Mart. I am very impressed with your work. I just ordered the lower windshield panel. The rust goes up to the first fan of the vents of the dash so there will be some repair work needed. I will try to get some pics posted.

Use POST REPLY in the blue Chevrolet icon (not the Quick Reply option). Then scroll down to the bottom and click on the "Upload attachment" tab. Then click Choose File, browse your PC to find and select the desired picture, and then click on "Add the File" to complete the upload process (may take several seconds depending on the picture file size). If you want to upload several pictures, just repeat this process several times, one photo at a time. Unfortunately there is no provision to upload a batch of files all at one time.

When you are done typing in your text and have completed uploading your pictures, click on "submit" to finish the process.

Ok I tried all that and it just says the image is invalid.

Most photos must be in JPEG (.jpg), Graphics Interchange Format (.gif), or .png. I'm not sure of all of the permitted formats on this Forum. What kind of file are you attempting to upload?

They are .jpg maybe they are too big?

Possibly. I usually use photo editing software to reduce the resolution and file size to a level appropriate for email attachment or for posting on a Web site. High resolution digital photographs or scanned images at a high resolution can typically be 10-20 Mb or more -- way too big and they take too long to upload. For example, the original photo attached here was scanned at a high resolution, and the resulting photo image size was an 18.3 Mb jpg file. I used some photo editing software (in this case Corel PaintShop Pro X4 to create an image for an email attachment, with the resulting downsized image coming out at only 213 Kb! Check your photo image file sizes. If they are greater than 1 Mb or so, the file size may be the problem.

Probably the best way to post pictures is to upload them elsewhere to any number of image hosting sites and then link the image, which you can do in the full editor just by clicking the IMG button and pasting in the URL of your image, like this:

with any luck the panel you have ordered should just about reach the vent area. Be careful when welding it in, I managed to distort all of the vent fins with the heat. When you cut out the old panel you will probably need to repair the bulkhead join that sits under it before fitting your new piece , I suggest removing dash and wires etc as well as it can get nasty under there

Thanks for the advice Mart. As soon as I figure out this picture thing I will add pics to show what I am up against. I also have a half dollar size rust hole in the driver side fender near the windshield, a rusted passenger floor pan and a quarter size hole near the gas pedal. It has been about 10 years since I have welded so hopefully this won't be trial by fire.

the floor pans are available but the only panel available for the fender area you mention is a fiberglass one (dont ask me why, seems a little pointless to me). I made them up for both sides of mine, not too hard to do
