DIY disk

Post by Mike D »

soo i thought i would start a thread for those who have built there own disk brake setup,

i recently built a set for my car out of parts i had around the shop,, The next step is to convert the master cylender over,, because it DOES NOT move anywhere near enough fluid for these big single pistons...

i ended up using front rotors from a C4 corvette, they are the 12 inch models,, This setup barely fits inside the 16 inch camaro wheels and requires only minor hub alterations

Brake calipers are from a 1999 saab viggen, i had them sitting around, so they got used

Master cyl is going to be from a 1989 saab 900. It uses the same bolt holes as the stock one, i just needed to fab the main break rod

Anybody else have DIY disk brakes on there car?

I'm saving parts to do a 4-wheel disc setup on my next project but that could be years down the road. Right now I only have the standard S-10 front retro on my V-8. For normal Vairs that aren't raced the drums work really well here in the dry desert.

Drums in new england are not really much good, we have lots of hills, blind corners, and bad drivers. all of these really justify having bettter brakes

i ended up using the master cyl from a ford f150. however i need a distribution block in the system to get it really stopping well

the corvette brakes look pretty killer behind the front wheels. No complaints here.

Now I saw it, so is this what DIY disk looks like. So any updates for this? My friend asked help for me about DIY disk but unfortunately I was unable to help him. I told him that give me enough time for that because I will also make some research for that. I told him that auto shop near them or a corvette manual might help him.
