Distributed help?

Got my engine back in the car and my distributer is messed up, the bottom edge got twisted off because the oil pump was bound up. I guess I'll need to drop the engine to pull that front case off and replace the drive gear and fix my oil pump (glad the car didn't start up with the oil pump not turning)

Anyone know of an HEI distributor for the Corvair? I figure if it doesn't cost a whole lot more I might as well do that. I found a refurb distributer for $70, but if there's an HEI one in the $200 range I would probably just do that. Anyone know of any or have any experience with any?

I like the 2-tone. How's she running now? Hotter than before?

Thanks man, it's running great!! A lot more power, but every now and then it just starts to run like crap. I thought there was just some junk in the carbs so I took the tops off of them and the fuel was boiling! Happened again today, I think the thing is over heating. Think the carbs
Might just need spaced out a bit farther from the heads? I guess it's possible my oil coolers not doing its job too... Hmmm... Time to start working on this again (once it cools down:p)

Your paper can wait as your English seems perfectly fine, haha... That's a nice job you did in a short time... Being 53 years old my issue is finding the time and then I'm not always so motivated :dontknow:...

So I'm guessing you may or may not have used the carburetor base insulators (plastic spacers the same shape as the base of the carbs)?

Install should go in the following order:
1. Gasket
2. Carb base insulator
3. Gasket
4. Carb

Ya i have the insulators on them, thats the 1/4" plastic piece right? i think my belt just wasn't tight enough, i tightened it up and its no longer overheating, but it still seems to be getting hotter than it used to. Im thinking this might be because of the new heads? :dontknow: will a better oil cooler with an electric fan help in the cooling process much? or is this just a matter of making sure i have good airflow?

Well lets cover the basics before going to extremes, Did you put the bottom shrouds back on? Did you hook up the thermostats? Are they opening?

All the shrouds are on, I haven't ever had those thermostat controlled flaps that are at the back of the car, I didn't even know they where supposed to be there until I got my manual. But those are supposed to open up when Its hot anyway right?

When it's running it's got a decent amount of air coming out of the bottom shrouds but I don't know what enough Is supposed to be
