Our New "OLD" Ride.....
Re: Our New "OLD" Ride.....
Lucky, Lucky, Lucky... My jaw just dropped when i saw this car. So does it run at all? Turn over? Whats it going to take to get her back on the road again?

That is exactly what I was thinking, I would not restore it. However if those are "recap tires" maybe some new tires would be in order. But drive it "as-is" they call it a survivor.Am-Iron wrote:I would do more of a tune up on that than a restoration! That thing looks ready to cruise. Welcome to the forum.

Nice looking car!
Same color as the one I just bought , but it has black interior. It;s awesome that your family kept the car for the this long. And knowing it's all orignal is cool.

Re: Our New "OLD" Ride.....
Thank's again to all for the kind words, encouragement and ideas in keeping it stock! I did purchase (5) new 185 - 80 - 13's radials! Just curiuos what would most do for the peppering of surface rust poking thru the original paint above the body (peak molding) line! Thought of having just the upper section re-sprayed but if we went that far we then contemplated a complete re-paint (original two-tone of course)?
Thanks Again,
Kevin

Re: Our New "OLD" Ride.....
If it were mine, I'd remove all the moulding and either sand or do some light grinding to remove all traces of surface rust, if it IS all surface rust (hopefully). I know this sounds like a pain in the rear, but I wouldn't be able to handle seeing any of that rust bleeding back down the new paint. I'd paint it all! If you don't go hog wild, as far as a museum quality resto, it shouldn't be too time-consuming.DLVRNIT wrote:Just curiuos what would most do for the peppering of surface rust poking thru the original paint above the body (peak molding) line! Or you could just drive it like it is.....if it's kept out of the weather and night moisture, it shouldn't rust any more.
Re: Our New "OLD" Ride.....
So we've brought our 60' Corvair aka "Cave Car" to it's new home just about a year ago! We been purchasing a few items since we brought her home to replace the few items that over the years had been subject to no attention! This past couple of months I've been cleaning and installing different pieces and so far so good... The paint issue was addressed by using a Meguiars Cleaner / Polish over the whole car... I need to address some mechanical issues but all in all it's coming along pretty well
