oil filter
oil filter
i am having a problem with oil filter not sealing, i have tried the wix filter and the Clarks filter and both leak real bad i had about 2 quarts of oil leak out in just a few seconds, i restored a 66 and never had a oil filter leak problem but this 63 i am restoring is driving me crazy. it doesn't make sense that the filters won't seal like they should. is there a different filter that would work better

Re: oil filter
I would say if you're having trouble getting either of those brands to seal, there is something wrong with your delcotron adapter. Chances are a screw on filter conversion, would leak too.
Re: oil filter
My understanding is there is a situation where the seals (one or both) from the old oil filter remains in the housing and then the new filter doesn't sit correct. Do you have the old filter to compare the seals to the new filter?

Re: oil filter
1) Remove the filter.
2) Wipe down the underside of adapter/housing with an old rag to remove old oil.
3) Get a small mirror (about 3" x 5") and hold it under the adapter so you can see.
Use a small light shining on the underside so you can see.
4) Using a pick or different tool, dig out the old gasket(s) that is stuck in the groove(s).
5) Wipe it down again and install new filter. Do NOT screw on the filter! Hold it in place and insert bolt and tighten the bolt per specs.
Once you have the mirror and a few tools ready, this whole procedure will take less than 5 minutes.
