Found at the old house, with a handful of parts that may (?) have been intended for the Kelmark car. Not sure.

What is this thing?

What application would require the use of angle iron mounted in this way?

Current, known Corvair applications? I think he wanted to make this the engine cover for the Kelmark car. That didn't end up happening, and the Kelmark car has been sold to Andria. So now there is this.

The angle iron was to anchor the rear face of the differential cover with a Crown V-8 conversion. I remember seeing that in the "How to Hot Rod Corvairs" book and always thought it looked sketchy.

The bracket looks to be a crown also. It would go between the front of the sag trans and the V8 bellhousing. The 4 smaller holes (2 on each side) would be for the small rods to the trailing arms.

This cover is for Gen 2 only, and not Gen 1? I've never laid eyes on either in its natural habitat. Will be selling the cover (as well as everything else); need to be certain on application when I write up the ads.

Crown stuff. Nice. Someone is going to have fun with the pile that is forming up.

The guts of that differential have seen water. Wondering whether I should be taking a harder look into those for harder-to-find components.

81) Mystery Sleeves - Packed in Wrong Box

I'm guessing sleeves for some sort of chassis bushing, but do not know which one. The box they were tucked inside of was for a non-Corvair body part.

I believe the sleeves were part of a replacement bushing kit(s) for front suspension strut rods.

Correct. Note the shelf on the sides. This made the V-8 (307cid) available as an option. The 65-66 didn't have that as they were strictly inline 6 units. The arch on the front at the floor is also more pronounced on the GEN 2. The floor on the GEN1's could be opened up to allow V-8 transplant along with the GEN 2 cover.

Spent some time, more recently, separating the wheels from everything else. Have almost finished consolidating those. While searching for the 5th center section for the set of Compomotive TF-300's, I came across these (together, in an open box):

For the 60-64 cars (wagons, sedans, and convertibles), was there only one length of rear axle? Were the left axles interchangeable with the rights?

Same questions regarding the FCs.

Questions:
Is the left-side manifold always the longer of the two?
Is there any version of these manifolds that is worth salvaging when one of the crossover pipe mounting flanges is broken - as is the case in the first photo below?
What is the tube running into the side of the runner on the manifold in the second photo below?

Exhaust manifolds:
Do believe one side is longer but can't remember which, think it might be Driver side. But I could be wrong (wife says 99.9999& 4/10 wrong). Hey, I got a 50/50 chance at it.

Little tube in 2nd pic is for the A.I.R. injection to exhaust on emissions controlled engines (67 and up?)

Broken mounting tab. No value in it unless you know how to weld cast iron. May be easier to salvage as scrap.

Lower fascia for LM (ROT)
If an owner is good at fabrication, and welding, he can patch it up and use it. I believe it's salvageable.

That little tube is for the 60 choke system. There would have been a longer tube coming out of the back that went up to the air cleaner thru a rubber hose. Since the 60 manifold is for the right side that means that the long one goes one the left. 60 and some 61's have the manifold to cross over flange vertical instead of being on an angle. This would be for both manifolds. When they went to the hot air heater they angled the flange to better fit the new front head shrouds with the 4" hose outlets.

88. Axles are the same length left to right. FC has 5 lugs[studs] (and bigger bearing assembly) One axle length and bearing assembly for all cars, one for all FCs.

As said, 1960 has the vertical exhaust studs on the manifolds. The single little tube external to the manifold is the choke hot air system on a 60. The A.I.R. tubes are inside each exhaust tube, so three per manifold and much longer than the choke tube.

I MIG weld stainless studs to the broken ear manifolds when I do not have a good ear manifold. "They" say it can't be done except under perfect circumstances. Ha! My welding is not that good... I would not buy one as I already have some. That broken off stud on the same manifold is no issue for me, I just grind the exposed part off, center punch as close to center as I can on the shadow of the now cut off stud, drill a new hole (5/16") and tap it 3/8-16. Trying to remove the broken stud here in the rusty east is futile. Just consider the stud now part of the cast iron manifold.

Yes, long manifold is always left, driver's side, short one is right side.
