The 2nd picture of the gaskets is not Corvair. It looks to the extension housing of a front engine car trans. Chet has a rare part.

I've finally reached the end of the first tower of cabinets. Saved the messiest drawer for last. This batch is going to be rather large. Thank you all (again) for taking the time to look at and share what you know about these things.

Let's start with...

47) Aluminum Valve Covers - Modified to close (2) holes on one cover, and (1) hole on the other. Whose product were these? Why this modification?

48) OTTO Pro-Flow Oil Pump - New. No P/N on either the instruction sheet or the pump, itself. Was this version particularly good?

49) IECO Quick-Shifter Kit - Also new. Also no P/N. Gimmick? Useful mod?

50) MORE Steering Arms - Also unmarked. Do any of you recognize the pattern? If the steering arms I've found which are technically "quick" were lined up together, would it be possible to identify whose product each was?

51) Breakerless Electronic Ignition - That's all it says. Used, but doesn't appear to have caught fire. Is this a familiar design?

52) Weather Strip - I found its twin.

53) Mystery Brackets - New. Function unknown.

54) Not Sure Where to Start With This One

55) Strut Rods?

56) Some Kind of Seal? - Rubber-coated steel. If it were for a normal car, I'd guess something like the grommet for the A/C lines at the firewall.

58) Remote Mirror - What year would this have applied to?

59) Solitary Bolt and Nut - This was the only one of these in the mostly-NOS parts cabinet. Not sure of its application.

60) Light Socket - Perhaps the most inconsequential part I've asked about so far. Which position does this one appear to belong to?

61) Cigarette Lighter - No visible part numbers. What year would this design and bezel have belonged to?

62) Large-Diameter Hose - Fabric over a steel winding. Pretty large. Also, slightly out-of-round. That could be down to how it was stored. Where does this one fit?

The last items in this cabinet's pile of unknowns come in the form of a pair of Mallory ignition systems. Distributors with transformers. Two different generations, from the looks of it. What is the story on these? EM? LM? Fun idea, but crap? Better for the track, or for daily driving?

The purpose of this thread is to get help with IDing parts. The cabinets where I found the items above contain items my father had some greater regard for. NOS. NORS. Rare stuff. A few headscratchers. Also, things that fit this description which happen to fit into the cabinets. I'm not familiar with all of them, and not all of them bear part numbers or descriptions that I can use for research. Some just don't seem (to me) to fit the general theme. For the most part, those are the items that are posted here.

The order of operations in this process is access, identify, organize, inventory, evaluate, price, then sell. The items above are a very small sample of the the lower-hanging fruit (the items I can get to, and which are seemingly less likely to be left incomplete by parting with before the larger sort is done). Much of the rest of the content of the garages is broadly disorganized and inaccessible. Right now, I am still working to identify the low-hanging fruit. I will get through the rest of the steps in the process as quickly as I can, but there is just the one of me.

Item 52 is the rear side window trim - not sure if it is coupe, convertible, or 4 door.

Item 53 looks like the brackets that attach to transmission support for forward rear strut rods that go into about the middle of the rear trailing arms. First time I've ever seen NOS.

Item 54 might be a tool to cut insert in head for valve seat - just a guess.

Item 56 is the engine bulkhead gasket for Air Conditioning hoses. I got mine from Clark's so I think they are still available.

Item 57 appears to be passenger side heat shield between valve cover and muffler. Often missing. YES they do make a difference in heat at valve cover. NOTE, the hard to find heat shield is the one for 140HP drivers side that bolts on the muffler!!

There is a gentle curve in one end of this item that stuck with me. Is this what you were referring to?

That, I have done. Through Clark's as well as through this kick-ass searchable .PDF of the 60-69 parts manual that Dave Robertson sent to me. The items in this thread generally fall between those particular cracks.

I will be delving into building a version of the framework you shared for joining the axles on the truck. Pretty sure I still have access to a piece of heavy-wall steel pipe that would do rather well in that application.

#54 appears to be a cutter for positive valve stem seals. This would be used on an engine that had integreal cast in valve guides. These guides didn't have a true shape at the top so this would machine it so that the positive seals could be used instead of the o-rings. This is not needed in the Corvair engine because it uses separate valve guides that are already machined.

Yes that appears to be the heat shield that goes on the stock drivers side muffler for the LM 140HP engine!! I see it has a GM part tag on it!!!!!!!!!!

Just me --- but I had a difficult time finding the drivers side heat shield. The heat shield attaches TO THE MUFFLER and muffler bracket and usually the shield was tossed in the trash when the muffler was removed. I got lucky and found one on a 140HP used muffler in a pile of parts at an estate sale. The other one was on a used muffler at a swap meet out West. Back east they tended to rust away.

BTW - it fits the Clark's 140HP aftermarket muffler. I made the shield to muffler strap out of stainless steel stock. Strap is toward the front of the car. Other end bolts to hanger bracket. You can see it is CLOSE to the valve cover, but works to reduce radiant heat transfer, better than I expected!!!
