Has anyone used the Electric Choke on their Turbo
Has anyone used the Electric Choke on their Turbo
Clarks and American PI sell these electric Choke conversions for the YH carter Carb that comes on the Turbo Corvairs.... I think I'm going to buy one because my "spring" choke doesn't work very good (sticks a lot). Has anyone on here used these before? Tell me how it works?
Carter YH Choke Conversion. This is an electronic choke conversion kit for our beloved Turbos. Alleviates hard starting, poor fuel economy, washed out oil, cylinder walls/piston rings from an over rich [choked] mixture. This kit senses head temperature and regulates the opening rate of the choke for proper operation. Includes a specific designed hold in circuit that senses head temperature during 'hot' re-starts to prevent flooding. Replaces the stock choke cover [black plastic] and the internals of the stock system.
A beautiful kit, bolts right up to carburetor and the sensing unit bolts to any top shroud bolt. $45.00 + s/h.

Yes, it works great! I always had issues with the choke on mine till I put that kit on there, since going electric it never had another problem. Before I would always have to take off the filter cover to set it by hand, because it never operated the same way twice. Just another reason to ditch that stupid carb, if you ask me.

Yeah, Im ready to through that thing in the street!! haha.... I would like to keep it mostly stock as I dont want to devalue the car with a lot of mods. The car is in perfect stock condition right now and in really good shape. I think changing the choke out though would not be bad.

Devalue? Depends on how you're looking at it!
If the car's value to you is based on how close to showroom it is, then you have no choice. But if you care how it actually runs and drives like I do, getting rid of that infernal contraption can only raise the value.

Just and FYI for anybody else out there I bought one of these and installed it and it works GREAT!! no more choke problems.

That's probably the accel enrichment, might be time for a new diaphragm/setup.

Just got mine from Clark's. I let you know how it turns out. I have had nothing but trouble with the old choke.
Thanks,

Hey Guys, I am going to be installing the electric choke on my 64 turbo this weekend. I was wondering where you attached the 12 v wire and where you attached the sensor?
Thanks,
Kurt

I put the sensor on a shroud bolt that went into the head so it picked up head heat, and gave the whole thing power from the coil terminal.

Granted the coil is getting 12 volts, right?
