Rocker Panel Trim not coming off 1966 four-door

Post by Scia13 »

Ok, so I have a 66 Corvair Monza four-door.

I got the Corvair as my first car and just started the process of prepping the exterior, but I need to take the rocker panel trim off. The videos online show this as a very easy process with only two screws and an adhesive. However, mine appears to have some extra connection points that don't have an accessible screw head. There are at least two of these on the side piece of trim. Is this factory? And how do I remove it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the attached photo, you can see the trim piece that is being pulled off but is still being held on by something.

I've never seen adhesive on any Corvair rocker trim. Just screws at the end and a steel (or two pieces of steel) rocker molding retainers. Once the screws are out, lift the trim up from the bottom starting at an end. Be careful not to bend the trim. if it comes off with a slight curve instead of straight, it will go back on.

Think of the trim as hanging on the retainer, so it has to go up to come off. :tu:

Have the shop manual? Right, body is not covered in the 1965 shop manual! :td: You need the body service manual. Oh well...

Your way makes sense, since the screws are on the bottom.
