Engine installation
I’m in the process of removing the blown 110 out of our 66 monza. I plan on reinstalling a good running used motor. The sheet metal and many of the parts on the blown engine are going on the “ new motor”. Should I mount up all of the sheet metal, carbs, alternator and exhaust system after installation or reassemble everything before I reinstall? From what I’ve read and seen the drivetrain is removed with everything intact so why not assemble before installation?
Re: Engine installation
You can do it either way. I find it easier to mount as much as possible before installation, including the trans/diff. The air cleaner I normally leave off. And use the bracket that is made to hold the engine while you raise and lower it, makes it much easier to control.

Installing LM engine tin in the car is not easy. Unless you have a car lift, it's best to install the engine without the carburetors and alternator due to clearance.doug6423 wrote: ↑Tue May 16, 2023 2:18 pm You can do it either way. I’ve a transmission jack. Hopefully, that should make the job easier. There’s a lot of sheet metal screws in the tin. A side question: is it worth the effort to put heli coils in the exhaust manifold holes or just buy the bolts that Clark’s sells for the very purpose?
